we get so far and then it just starts rewinding; and the same old song, we're playing it again

you know what? i'm allowed to be bitter and pissed off about the election. it meant something to me, as i'm sure it meant something to you and a lot of other americans. i stood in line for over two hours even though i knew my vote would be virtually worthless in a solid red state like indiana. hell, we were the first red state to be colored in on the map during the news coverage.

politics is personal to me. it's something i've only been passionate about for a year or so but i research on it nearly every day. but i'm not too keen on debating about it. i think we're all entitled to our own opinions and i hate to be berated about it. i'm beratde for pretty much everything; let me have my opinions and thoughts on the issues i care about without trying to belittle my beliefs.

i need to vent. and i'm going to do so here.

i don't see how he got re-elected. i really don't. our country has never been so divided. bush couldn't unite us in his first term, and he's not going to do so in his second term. people either hate him or they love them and that just makes the divisions between the democrats and republicans even more apparent. kerry gave me hope. of course it would have taken time. months.. a year or two.. but if one of those two guys could even remotely do it, it would be kerry hands down. people aren't familiar with kerry. maybe he's not as personable but if had been given the chance, i think the rest of the americans could have warmed up to him.

and i don't understand middle america. the polls say that terrorism was our number one issue when it came to this election. did anyone see the numbers that came from new york last night? they overwhelmingly favored kerry and it was the new yorkers who watched their friends and families fall from the towers. it was the new yorkers who fell to a terrorist attack. the coasts are the in the most vulnerable position for a terrorist attack and they overwhelmingly trusted kerry. honestly, what does middle america have to worry about? do you actually think they'll want to bomb a cornfield? please. they should be worrying about things such as the economy. and on that note, what the hell is ohio thinking? nearly 70% of people in ohio say their economy is "horrible". jobs have been lost left and right ever since bush took office in 2000. he hasn't done shit for the economy besides give tax breaks to people who don't need it. yet, ohio, who hasn't seen the economy like this in god knows how long, fell for bush. a failed economy does reflect on the president whether people like it or not.

i'm hoping to graduate within the next four years and i want to go into the job market with high hopes. i'd feel much better right now if kerry was in office. some of my environmentalist friends are switching majors (maybe even schools) after this election. how unfortunate.

and how sad it is that all those states voted to ban gay marriage. it's ok for britney spears to get married as a joke but it's not ok for two people who love each other (and just happen to be the same sex)? how does their getting married affect you? it doesn't. it's between them. why get in the way of another's happiness for the sake of someone's comfort level? get the hell over it. let them live their lives. we all only get one chance at this so let's make the best of it and stop trying to bring others down. and it shouldn't even be about religion. lots of couples get married that don't recognize a divine faith. marriage should be about two people loving each other and wanting to build a life together despite their race or sexual preference. our definition of marriage is outdated and americans need to start recognizing that.

no, i don't think kerry would have solved all of our problems but i think he had the potential to make them better. he talked about the future and had high hopes for it while bush just reflected on the past. when will our nation begin to move forward again?

here's a bit of advice: if you travel out of the country tell people you're canadian. it's safer that way.
