Bruce Sterling
Bruce Sterling came to give a talk at Microsoft back in May 2004. I took this rather bad picture of him. He gave a very amusing talk about trying to manage his annual open SXSW party. Getting a book signed by him, I can't think of anything much to say, so I ask a really stupid question, one that I already know the answer to, and one I already know he gets asked frequently.
"Have you ever considered revisiting the Shaper-Mechanist universe?"
He recommended I check out Ken McLeod and Iain Banks...
The thing is, I actually don't have anything I particularly want to ask any of the fiction-writers I read.
Anyway, apparently Mr. Sterling got married earlier this week, to someone his age. If I were an author pushing fifty with a large and intelligent following, I'd probably get involved with some pretty young thing. At the same time, marrying someone who is clearly a woman of substance seems to speak very well of him...
