Chapter 5
Ian was known to be the dorky, slow, corny, and optimistic one of the epic duo of Smosh. He knew how to make people smile and he usually found the bright side of things. He got along with everybody and his best characteristic was being adorable. And that's what Anthony loved about his best friend.
Anthony was the daring, outgoing, and flirtatious one. He was usually the life of the party and he knew how to have fun. But when it came to serious things, the only person he had complete trust in was Ian. And Ian felt the same way as well. You can pretty much say they understand each other best than understanding other people. Yes, they would always make fun of each other, but that was part of their awesome friendship.
However, Anthony was starting to question Ian for his character. It never concerned him his entire life he knew Ian and it was never serious. They told each other everything, from what juicy stuff happened at a friend's party to really personal guy issues. But it never came across Anthony's mind that Ian was actually curious about his sexuality. They always joked about it in videos and with their friends. But hey, you know what they say; there's always a little bit of truth behind every "just kidding."
"Hey, Anthony. Anthony! Hellooo. Earth to Anthony!" Ian called out. Anthony snapped back to reality after spacing out for the umpteenth time today. The Smosh Team were over at the boy's household to shoot another video on a beautiful, sunny summer morning. Abigail was still there and she was able to stay a little longer to see the guys in action. Surprisingly, no one had a hang over. It was good, too, or else they would have been in trouble for filming. But that night did leave something behind that Anthony is not going to forget for a long time.
"Oh. Sorry." Anthony said with regret. The film crew had to stop filming a few times due to Anthony's lack of acting. Usually they would stop because of the outburst of laughter from everyone, but this time they were quite concerned with his behavior today.
"Do you need to take a break?" asked one of the crew members.
Anthony put a hand over his eyes to avoid the glare of the burning sun. "Is that okay?"
The crew member nodded and everyone dispersed inside of the house for some shade. Anthony was about to walk in when Ian placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Yo, dude. You alright?" Ian asked. "You seem really off today."
Anthony looked at Ian, whose blue eyes sparkled as the radiance of the sun shone over them. Ian didn't notice, but Anthony cheeks got a little red and turned his face away from him. "I'm fine. It's just really hot today." Neither of them spoke for a minute until one of the crew member walked up to Ian. "Hey, Ian. Can I ask you something about the script?"
"Oh sure." Ian said. He patted Anthony's broad back. "You'll be okay, dude." He smiled and left with the crew member into the house.
Abigail went up to Anthony and observed his face. "Anthony, are you okay?" He was about to tell her that everything was fine, but instead he looked around to see if any one was still outside. He grabbed Abigail's arm and took her to the side of the house where no one was around. Abigail was startled by his sudden action. "What's wrong?"
"Abby." He started off with a hurried whisper. He looked around again to really make sure no one was around to listen. "Last night, Ian told me something that totally caught me off guard."
Abby gave him a worried look. She tucked a strand of brown hair behind her ear. "What did he say?"
Anthony paused for a second. He was mentally debating whether he should tell Abby or not of what happened the night before at their little drunk party. But he shook it off; he just had to tell someone about it. "...Ian told me he liked me."
Abby raised a thin eyebrow. "So?" She said relatively apathetic. "He's your best friend. 'Course he likes you."
"No." Anthony sighed. "I mean like like."
It took Abby a moment to understand what he was saying. Her eyes widened quite a bit, but she didn't seem so surprised like he expected. "Huh... is that so."
"But the thing is," Anthony continued. "He doesn't even know that he told me. He was so drunk, he didn't even realize he confessed that to me."
"I knew he had something confidential." Abby remarked under her breath.
Anthony blinked at her. "Wait. You knew?"
Abby shrugged. "I asked him if he had a girlfriend yesterday, but he just said there was no girl out there and I forced him to tell me who he liked because I knew he was denying it." Abby explained rather quickly. "He told me I would judge him if he did tell me. I mean, sure, I'd be concerned, but--"
"But you would judge him, wouldn't you?" Anthony retorted, remembering to keep his voice low.
"Hey. Remember, it's you that he likes. And for that, I will support him. Just now, you were against me judging him." Abby asserted herself.
"I...," Anthony scratched the sweaty back of his neck. He sighed. "...I don't know."
"What about you?" asked Abby. "How do you feel about this?"
"Well..." Anthony started. "He subconsciously told me I understand him and that I make him really happy. And it's true; he does the same thing with me. We pretty much enjoy everything together and we got each other's back. And... I have to admit; he does have his cute side." Anthony put air quotation marks for the word cute.
Abby snorted, holding back a giggle.
"What?" Anthony quietly barked.
"It's just that I'm so not used to hearing these things from you, especially about Ian." Abby explained.
"Look. He was drunk. He obviously didn't mean it or anything." He was embarrassed. Very cute. "Like you said: he says things he doesn't even know he's saying when he's drunk."
"Uh-huh." Abby crossed her thin arms and looked at him mighty-like. "You like him, too, don't you."
Anthony was about to tell her off, but the crew called everyone back on set. "Ian's my best friend. 'Course I like him." He said quite sarcastically. Anthony walked passed her.
Abby didn't see it, but she felt the smirk on Anthony's face. She turned around when he was already back on set with Ian. She watched the two boys get into character, smiling and laughing, and quietly smiled to herself.
After a whole day of shooting, with Anthony and everyone else in a good mood, the Smosh Team packed their film equipment and also appreciated Abby for staying and watching the boys do their awesome thing. They finally left, a little earlier than usual, to give the trio some time to take care of their business.
They were back in the house relaxing. It was about 5:45 in the evening.
"That was too cool, you guys. Seeing it live is so different from watching it on YouTube." Abby said.
"You should definitely stay longer next time you visit, Abby." Ian said. He took a sip from his warm water bottle. "Your stay was way too short."
"I know." Abby said sympathetically. "Next time for sure."
Anthony was leaning against the dinner table. He couldn't help but look at his two friends casually talking and laughing. It's been a while since he was actually satisfied with the way things were at that moment. He was so caught up with everyday stressful things; like hardcore editing, doing everything he can to make his friends and fans happy, and most of all, the future of Smosh. He absorbed the moment to himself, a moment that he can finally remain in peace, even for a second, and smiled to himself contently.
"Well," Abby said finally. "I gotta get going." She carried a yellow back-pack over her shoulder.
"You need a ride to the airport?" Anthony asked.
"Nah, it's fine. I can take a bus there." Abby took a good long look at her former best friends standing before her. "I feel like I learned something new about you two."
Both boys looked at each other at the same time but turned away instantly, hiding their cute flustered faces.
Abby giggled quietly to herself. "You guys take care of yourselves. Make sure the other one doesn't die, alright?"
The boys chuckled and led her out the door. Apparently it started to rain. It was a good thing they were able to finish their filming before the rain poured down.
Abby tied her hair back and put the hood of her sweatshirt over her head. "See you guys later!"
Ian and Anthony stood under their roof and watched Abby run in the rain until she disappeared.
"What do you think she meant by 'learned something new' about us?" Ian asked curiously.
Anthony followed him and closed the door behind him. He felt like he knew the answer. "I dunno."
"Okay. Well, I'm gonna go take a shower." Ian started his way to the hallway.
All of a sudden, Anthony thought of a really crazy idea. He had no idea where it came from, but he had a sudden desire to play with Ian for a bit. Now that he acknowledged Ian's feelings for him, he wanted to know if it were actually true. Because he knew Ian so well; he always denied when he had the chance.
"Hey, Ian." Ian turned around. "Why don't I join you?" Anthony seductively licked his lip, but made sure it still looked a bit goofy.
Ian just looked at him as if he was high. "You are such a weirdo." He turned around and started walking again.
Anthony quickly sneaked up behind him and wrapped his arms around Ian's waist. His surprise grip caused Ian to yelp like a girl.
"Dude! What the hell?" Ian cried out.
Anthony rested his chin against the curve of Ian's neck and shoulder. "Come on, Ian. Save water, shower together." His grip around his waist got tighter.
"Not in a million--!" Ian could feel the heat from Anthony's body. He never felt such warmth before; it was a really comfortable warmth. He never felt Anthony's hard body against his either. He could tell he was really in good shape. His heart started beating fast. He swore Anthony could feel his body trembling against his. But he didn't care. He didn't move. He didn't want to move. He was quite happy that Anthony was actually hugging him. The warmth coming from both of their bodies was really soothing.
"Uh," Anthony suddenly said. "I'm guessing your silence means 'yes'?"
Ian shook off from him, his face bright red. "Your wish...," Ian jabbed a finger on Anthony's forehead, causing him to fall back a little. "...has been denied!" He sprints off to the bathroom and locks the door.
Anthony rubs the tiny bump on his forehead and laughs quietly to himself.
After the boys got cleaned up from today's hard work, they were too tired to edit or do anything else so they claimed this night for themselves with a movie and pizza. They've earned it.
"Man, I can't believe you still didn't watch the last Lord of the Rings. It's definitely the best one!" Ian opened the pizza box and gobbled up his first slice.
"I hope so. You better not spoil it for me!" Anthony got a slice of his own pepperoni pizza.
"I'll try not to." Ian smirked.
The lights were dim and the movie started with endless previews. The house gets cold at night when it was summer so Ian had a blanket on him to keep warm. Anthony joked about his Power Rangers blanket, but it was still pretty cool. Anthony was finally looking forward to the movie, since Ian saw it at least 5 times. Ian glanced over at his best friend, leaning forward on the couch as if he ready to sprint in a race, very excited. Ian had a warm smile on his face; happy that he was able to spend some time with Anthony, just the two of them. No worrying, no stress, nothing. He was slowly starting to get comfortable with his feelings for him, but there's always that hint of doubt.
Half way through the movie, Anthony laid his head on Ian's shoulder.
"What's with you today?" Ian asked curiously. He didn't shake him off though. "You've been kinda clingy to me recently."
"My neck hurts." Anthony said without taking his eyes off the bright television screen. "Deal with it."
Ian just sighed with a bit of content.
The movie ended around 1 in the morning. The credits kept on rolling.
"Man, great movie as usual." Ian said. "Right, dude?" There was no response. The only thing audible in the room was the background music of the movie and even breathing. "Anthony?"
He looked down to see Anthony asleep on his shoulder. Ian sighed. "Aw, man. He didn't even see the ending." He looked down at him again. He noticed a part of his hair was covering his eyes. Ian took his hand and gently shifted Anthony's dark brown hair away from his face. Ian remembered the last time he saw a handsome face like this. He still looked like an angel when he was asleep. His pink lips were parted a little bit. His snore wasn't the obnoxious snoring his dad had; his snore was small and cute. Anthony had his arms crossed. Ian figured he got cold during the movie, so he quietly covered his Power Rangers blanket over the two of them. Under the blanket, they shared body heat that was just relaxing. Ian couldn't be happier, or more comfortable. He enjoyed this wonderful moment. Ian got the remote, turned off the movie, switched to cable T.V., and quietly smiled to himself.
"Goodnight, dude."
