Just a meme, ma'am.

Aug 13, 2015 21:34

I thought I'd do this meme I saw on steepholm's LJ about Britishness, or something.

I needed a break at the time because I spent an hour on one footnote. No joke.

1. Marmite- love or hate?

Hate. Whoever thought that was a good idea was insane.

2. Marmalade- thick cut or thin cut?

It depends on what you're spreading it on. Thick for toast, thin for muffins and oatcakes.

3. Porridge- made with milk or water?

Make with water, mix with milk.

4. Do you like salt, sugar or honey on your porridge?

Brown sugar. (Salt? Who does that? Ew!)

5. Loose tea or teabags?

I am fundamentally lazy, so teabags. The exception to this is Japanese green tea, as I was once taught the proper tea ceremony by a little old lady in Seattle's international district, and know better than to skimp on.

6. Where on your door is your letterbox?

In the centre, under the doorknob?

7. What's your favourite curry?

Palek paneer.

8. What age is the place where you live?

I'm not actually sure about the house. Presumaby nineteenth century, as the chapel we're attached to was built in the 1830s.

9. Where do the folks running your local corner shop come from?

...I think Tal-y-bont?

10. Instant or fresh coffee?

Fresh. How is this even a question, what is wrong with people?

11. How far are you from the sea?

Now that I've moved inland, five miles.

12. Have you travelled via Eurostar?

Yes, and lovely it was. Especially compared to the disaster that is Arriva Trains Wales.

13. If you were going to travel abroad, where's the nearest country to you?

Ireland, provided I'm prepared to row--across the Irish Sea to Arklow (the route of the Celtic Challenge boat race) is 90 miles, whereas England is just over 150.

14. If you're female (or possible even some males) do you carry a handbag?

A vintage-style satchel, actually.

15. Do you have a garden? What do you like growing?

We do, but I do not grow anything. My housemate has a delightful vegetable garden from which I help myself to onions, spinach, kale, tomatoes, and herbs.

16. Full cream, semi skimmed or skimmed?

Full cream, when I bother with it.

17. Which London terminal would you travel into if going to the capital?

Euston.

18. Is there a local greasy spoon where you live?

Not actually, in my village--we have a chippy, a rather posh deli, and a garden shop where ladies go to lunch. Once you get into Aberystwyth though, there are many of them.

19. Do you keep Euros in the house?

...somewhere, from the last holiday, I think.

20. Does your home town have a Latin, Gaelic or Welsh alternative name?

I understand that Aberystwyth is also the English equivalent, possibly because ti's fun to make tourists say. (The Welsh name of the village is a matter of some debate, though--it's odd, as it's a primarily Welsh-speaking village called after an English street. Oh well. My end of the village has a Welsh name, but it really is tiny, and in the interest of not being SO easy to find, I'll keep it to myself.)

21. Do you have a well known local artist or author?

Actually quite a few, though most are specifically Welsh. Sue Jones-Davies used to be our mayor, though.

22. Do you have a favourite Corrie character?

My friend made me watch as far as the theme song once when I was really hung over.

23. Are your kitchen sink taps separate or a mixe

lasjkdou@#%^TQ# separate because WHY, BRITAIN?

24. Do you have a favourite brand of blended tea?

Glengettie, if it's going.

25. What's in your attic if you have one?

Nobody knows that.

26. If you go out for a cream tea, what jam do you like on your scone?

Raspberry, but strawberry is a close second.

27. Talking of scones- scon or scown? Jam or cream first?

*shifty look* Cream first. I understand this means I may not be welcome in Cornwall.

28. Barth or bath?

Baath?

29. Carstle or castle?

Castell, actually.

30. What flavour of crisps do you favour?

Wasabi.

31. If you go to the chippie, what do you like with your chips?

Vinegar, and lots of it.

32. Take away, take out or carry out?

Takeaway, unless it comes in American paper boxes, then it's takeout.

33. If you have one, what colour is your wheelie bin?

Green.

34. What colour skips does your local skip hire use?

...blue, I think?

35. Do you celebrate Guy Fawkes?

Any excuse for drinking beer and watching stuff explode.

36. Dettol or TCP?

Soap and water, generally.

37. Do you have a bidet in the bathroom?

No.

38. Do you prefer courgettes or aubergines?

Courgettes are okay. Aubergines are disgusting mutant vegetables of the Devil.

39. In the 'real world' Do you have friends of other nationalities? Which nationalities?

Of course. I even like some English people, even though they're making themselves disagreeable in the media at the moment.

40. Do you have a holy book of any sort in the house?

I live in a chapel house with a family of very observant Catholics. You figure it out.

41. Do you prefer a hankie or tissues?

Tissues. Who wants to put the snot back in your pocket?

Yes. Butter and honey.

43. Doorbell, knocker or both?

Bell, preferably.

44. Do you own a car? What sort?

I do not. (Well, I do, but it's in the US, so doesn't qualify for this quiz. It's a Nissan pickup though, if that helps.)

45. What sort of pants do you guys prefer? Y fronts or boxers?

Not applicable.

46. Anyone still a fan of suspenders?

Not really.

47. Do you have a favourite quote from the bard?

And thus the native hue of resolution is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought, and enterprises of great pith and moment with this regard their currents turn awry, and lose the name of action.

48. Do you like toasted muffins?

Yes. They are included in my lunch most days.

49. Do you think a traditional trifle should contain jelly?

My grandma made hers with fruit and jam.

50. Do you attend regular religious worship? Of what kind?

Yes. And strangely enough, not at the chapel where I live. There are no Lutheran churches anywhere in the area, so rather than taking the train to Birmingham every Sunday, I've been going to one of the local Cs of E. Weather permitting, I walk to the next village, otherwise I get a lift into town.
