Con report: ClosetCon 2010

Aug 17, 2010 01:08

Back from ClosetCon, a very cool and unique expeience. Not nearly enough sleep, of course, and today I've got a bit of a headache, but am going to write up some sort of con report before I get too distracted doing the things I need to do.

Old School Slasher Con, with pictures, inside! )

I am very nearly speechless.

I would've been curious to hear the reboot panel; I have strong opinions myself.

But the vintage slash stuff? Oh, my heart aches that I was not there to buy some of it. *pouts*

Hee! I love reboot a lot. There are some definite issues with the story, but what Star Trek doesn't? And it opens up a lot of fic possibilities. :)

You can order vintage slash zines online! I didn't know this until recently, but I can hook you up with links if you want. :)

Well, I did like the guy who played Bones and Spock was kind of hot.

Yes, hook me up with linkage please! :)

Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed that.

Less than two months until Connotations, less than thirty miles north of here...

Thanks, I'm glad!

And oh! I didn't even know about that, it looks brilliant! A very hard weekend for me to go anywhere, but I'll think about it. :)

That was meant to say beyond. I have not exactly slept (left for the airport Mo at 23:00 after running around London for a day and got home at 10, which I suppose would be 9, relatively, and I have decided to stay up, so I won't fall into some screwed up rhythm again) so please forgive my spelling (and general incoherence).

This was a lovely report. (Thanks for the credit on the panel. You did most of the work really.)

And we'll sort out the picture sharing.

All the best for the return to life as a student.

OMG I DID NOT NEED TO SEE THE FISHHEAD. *g* But will leave it there so people understand why it was traumatic. *g*

I just had the computer, really. And the ability to babble when excited. *g* I thought we both did a pretty good job for having not known what we were going to say the night before!

Anyway it was awesome to meet you. Hope you get some sleep! :)

The taxi rank smelled nice? Unusual, heh. I'm just trying to imagine it.

(and mostly I concentrate on 'but Chris Pine is so PRETTY'! I am amazed I have not moved on from crushing on that boy yet).

Amen. It's been four years for me and I've still not stopped! :'D Admittedly, I've wandered off sometimes but if men can have a roving eye, then so can I LOL.

It was about whether you can be a fan without being 'in fandom'

Oh I'd love to see you do something with this in the future. You've got me thinking about it now. Sounds (and looks!) like you had a great time. :) Good luck with getting on with student life. For once, thank god for the internet y/y!

PS. Did rhaegal go home looking green? Lol, whatever bathroom she uses, that's sure gonna look green for a while...

There is an elderly Punjabi gentleman who keeps the thing organised and I think has incense going; it's strange but lovely.

The 'being a fan without being in fandom' thing does interest me a bit. Because there are definitely things I like to read or watch where I might even read a bit of fic and look at pictures, but could definitely not be said to be 'in the fandom'. Also, fandom gets way too serious for me sometimes, so I like the idea that you can back away a bit. ;)

And she said yesterday she was still finding bits of green paint on her ears. ;)

Ditto on both counts. I think that's kinda why I'm rubbish at being in big fandoms. My creative output is sporadic, which I've always deemed as my 'way in', so if that's not there, I tend to fall away from other activities pretty quickly. Luckily, it's only through my increased comment fiend ways from recent years have I managed to keep friends on my friends list lol. I enjoy stuff as long as my arm, but I'm rarely in the fandom. Some days I'd like to change that a little, other days yeah, I could quite happily sit back from all the intense involvement/seriousness/activity. What to do?!

Lol, I bet. Poor girl. Now that's dedication to one's fandom.

That was a wonderful report! Thanks for taking time to write it.

It was lovely meeting you and all the others in our little 'group', as well as catching up with a lot of people I haven't seen in years. I loved your cadet costume and your panel - the vids you showed were certainly very popular - good choice!

Caren, Gayle and I arrived back in London around 7pm on Sunday evening and after going to a nice restaurant for dinner (too tired to cook!) we sat around in a kind of shell-shocked stupor for the evening!

We had an easy day yesterday and this morning I saw them both off - Caren back to San Francisco, and Gayle onto the Eurostar for a week in Paris before she, too, heads back to SF.

I hope it's not too long before we meet again. :-)

xx

It was lovely meeting you, too! And everyone else. Fabulous. :) (And Sunday was DEFINITELY a 'no cooking' day. I got a not-terribly-enjoyable veggie burger in the Birmingham train station, but it meant not having to make anything but tea when I got home!) It always takes a bit of time to come down, doesn't it? But it sounds like your road trip was a lot of fun and I'm glad you got to see them. :)

Me too! I'll pester you next time I'm heading toward London. :)
