My American Story

I've written this personal piece as my own national volunteer week essay...

It is dedicated to David Soul, who asked those of us who respect and appreciate his work to express such sentiments, at least partially, in tackling issues and making a difference, in ways large and small. In his words:  “What I would want is that people who ( Read more... )

I'm just German and unfortunately I'm not that a practical person. I wish I was....
I sponsored childs (girls) for several years in Africa via World-Vision (http://www.worldvision.de) or (http://www.worldvision.org/) and changed then to Plan International and to a girl in Honduras (https://www.plan-deutschland.de) or (http://plan-international.org). I had to stop that, when me and hubby seperated. But I'm still supporting the WWF (www.wwf.org) and Greenpeace (www.greenpeace.org) or (greenpeace.de) and the German humane society (www.tierschutzbund.de).
My cats are from Turkey and Spain. The tomcat would've ended in the animal shelter, if I would'nt have taken him and the cat is from a private cat shelter. My beloved dog 'Sparky' was from the animal shelter here in Berlin. He's dead now since several years. I still miss him.
My husband helped voluntarily in our church. He had so much fun doing that, that he started to do that in the morning and came back late at night. Though I actually supported him to help there, because it was good for him, I wasn't happy he stopped doing his work at home and left all the other things for me he didn't like to do, when I came back home after work. It killed our marriage in the end. Last year he left Berlin and moved back to his hometown. He left the church and the people who actually were so much more important to him than his own family. I still can't understand him. But that's another story. Sorry.... :/

You have touched on many wonderful and worthy causes, Bee-Angel, and made them personal to you. Thank you for sharing what you care about with me. And yes, the husband-church is definately another story.

Big *hugs* to you!
