Icon Love & Spring Forward

Mar 12, 2011 11:51

Happy Saturday, flist! Talented Terri made me this sweet icon of Hutch wearing his snazzy new black (non-hooded) Starsky & Hutch sweatshirt, so of course, I couldn't wait to make a post using it. It matches her own Starsky in his bold black Starsky & Hutch sweatshirt - minus Starsk's hoodie look. I think Hutch looks adorable here, but from the expression on his face, he gave Terri a bit of a hard time as she dressed him up in finery like a paper doll.

I was out in the garden earlier, it was a chill and overcast 49 degrees F, but the row of lenten roses were starting to bloom and I couldn't bear their fresh new blossoms against the dead brown of old leaves. Now they are pruned and perky and ready for a huge mass of bloom - it will happen in early April. I walked around the garden, seeing hundreds of spring bulbs emerging, new budding on lilac trees, dogwood trees, flowering plum, and others. The two witch hazels - one yellow and one orange - are in full bloom. Crocuses are up in some places, tucked in protected sunny spaces near stone walls. The soil still has that winter-crisp feel underfoot and the smells are still watery-cold winter...but spring is just around the corner. Finally - good riddance, troublesome winter!

We spring forward on the clocks here as of tomorrow at 2:00 AM - the switch forward is always harder for me than the switch back.

My husband is glued to CNN, watching the devastating news from Japan. I had to disconnect. So much wrong, so much tragedy, and it can make a person feel absolutely helpless to do anything to fix it or stop it. I was relieved to read Moni's family is safe...we got news from my relatives in LaUnion, Philippines that they are safe as well. The Philippines Islands are next door neighbors to Japan, and that pushed my worry button. Getting the all clear was a relief.

It's a lazy day - cleaning, ironing, a grocery shop, writing, LJ-ing. The rain just started and it's rattling the windows.

Stay warm, dry, safe, and happy all - writes-
