February 12: dreamtime
evanui (original), nick
Rough character sketch. Short, messy, but I don't care anymore. The format idea's not really mine; I saw it somewhere a while ago and thought it was neat.
when the lullaby is over
Nick likes to say he doesn't remember his dreams. Often that he doesn't have any. Rarely, that he used to have them when he was a kid. That his mother changed stories into lullabies, and when he dreamed he saw the lyrics as bright, vivid pictures. He's not sure where the box of crayon illustrations went, so no he can't describe them in more detail.
He doesn't say: "I try not to sleep."
He doesn't say: "I don't want to remember them."
He doesn't say: "I dream and I see magical, hideous creatures. I see a figure made of black scribbles and when he's near you all you hear is screaming. I see a closet and a woman and a boy crying because she's gone to a place where he's too afraid to follow. I see a portal with ugly dancing colors and designs and shapes and eyes in the walls. It closes and I wake up to my empty house."
He says: "I have nightmares. But I don't remember those either."
He doesn't say: "I'm lying."
