Mothers Day call

May 12, 2019 19:53

Just got off the phone to wish a Happy Mothers Day to the only 'mom' I still have left from my younger years: Mrs. Donna Odom. I used to hang out with her 4 sons almost every day from junior high through high school, and for as much time as I spent over at their house all those years, the brothers' mom and dad were like second parents to me.

I dropped by for a visit when I was in the old neighborhood in 2011. That's when I took the first picture below: of Mrs. Odom with her husband, Bill, and son Bob. I was really happy that Bobby just happened to be there. I probably got into more mischief with him than any of the other brothers! Spent a lot of time with him shooting the breeze about all the hellraising we used to do back in the day. Very memorable visit! Tragically, since then, Bob has died, as did Mr. Odom, Sr. So being all alone now, I thought Donna would appreciate a hello from me today. It sure was wonderful talking with her. Means a lot to me to hear a familiar adult voice from my past again. Like I said, she's the last one left...

So Happy Mothers Day to all the rest of you moms out there! I sure wish I had mine back so I could tell her that, myself.
