"Electronic mail?"

Dec 15, 2007 03:05

*chuckles* Been tidying up my file cabinets tonight and I found an item that immediately brought back a specific memory. It was the first time I ever saw an email address!

It was around the end of May, 1992, and I got a registration packet in the mail for the Sixth International Theriological Congress which was to be held in Australia the following year. Among the registration info was this curious string of characters:

Fox@cumulus.csd.unsw.oz.au

So that's how one would address an "electronic mail" message, eh? Hmm. Not like we even had an Archie server at school, never mind "E-mail". That was no use.

Right below it was the Telex number, though. Now there was a telecommunications medium I was familiar with! ;-)
