(no subject)
Rai didn't take much with him when he left. His coat, gloves, a few things he'd recieved in the Nexus--a PINpoint, set to return him here if things went south, a charm to prevent possession--he had no desire at all to repeat the experience with Nebiros--placed on top of a single change of clothes in his rucksack. Kaida whined and bumped against Rai's thigh.
"No, you stay here. Stay with Ren. I'll be back, alright? I need you to take care of him."
Rai couldn't deny that he had misgivings about going back. His reasons for doing so may have been entirely selfish, but it had to be done anyway. He grabbed two white envelopes off the dresser--one with Ed's name written on the front in blocky script, the other blank. The latter was laid on Ren's pillow, the other would be slipped under Ed's door on the way out.
Rai turned and walked out the door before he could change his mind. Kaida scratched at the door for a moment after it closed behind him, then jumped up onto the bed and sniffed the letter. His tail knocked the note off the pillow and down to the floor between the bed and the nightstand, the very end of it visible if one looked closely.
Rai stood outside the apartments, PINpoint in hand, charm around his neck, and let the device take him back to where it all started.
Ren,
I love you. I'm sorry I couldn't tell you I was going in person...I wouldn't have been able to go through with it if I had. I have to know whether what Nebiros showed me is true. Please...don't come after me. I don't want to risk putting you in danger. I'll be home soon.

I just wanted to say thank you, for everything you've done for Ren and I, in case something happens and I don't make it back. Thank you for caring about us, even though you didn't have to, for helping us even when it put you and you family in danger. I appreciate it so much more than I know how to express.
I am going back to our world. There are some things I need to see for myself. I don't want to say 'if I don't come back,' but I can't ignore the possibility...if something happens, please, make sure that Ren stays safe.
