Yes. I’ve seen tons of shows that ended in a similar way. If I hadn’t been so emotionally involved I’d probably have loved it. I might have taken this too seriously for what it was, but that was the way - you either became very involved with one (or both) or you didn’t care.
It didn’t make much sense to me when applied to LoM, but the saddest thing for me is it put me off Gene Hunt. I covered my eyes, screaming, every time I saw PC6620 (even though I knew it was clever make-up) & was crossing everything I could cross -- praying -- OK, perhaps that’s going a bit too far) that he wouldn't be him. I still like Gene if I think of him as how I thought he was; I really fancied him in LoM; but I can't if I think of him as what we've been told he was ie dead. So, no box set for me then!
I never want to hear ‘Danny Boy’ ever again either. I knew of it, but I’d never heard it in full or taken much notice of the words; when I heard Raymondo (my fav character next to Gene) sing it it had me in bits, & sadly it still does.
