Dear 'boss'
I hardly care if it's hard for you to find someone to replace me for the early hospital round. i feel like crap and have done for over two weeks. I have had exactly 10 hours off sick and 3 days off for annual leave in the last almost 8 months. I work between 5 and 10 hour a day 6 days a week. You won't let me rearrange that roster so I can attend appointments or rest like a normal person, and still the two days sick that i have taken in all that time have been left until i was too out of it to function because i didn't want to inconvenience you with having to re roster 10 hour days or days where I work multiple locations. I care about my work and my patients so i wouldn't stuff you around like that. I let myself cave in this morning because it is one of my shortest days and one of the quietest for the hospital.
Now, I am pissed off because you seem to think, boss, that just because you don't happen to enjoy waking up at 0630 to rearrange the area's roster to accommodate sick calls, that I should wake up an extra hour earlier than i need to just so you have time to wake up on my 8th or 9th call, tear me a new one and then juggle your badly allocated relief staff who don't want to be relief anyway and therefore piss and moan when you move them around. News flash, I would kill for your job warts and all so if you don't like what you are doing, please by all means let me do it properly and you can go back to the thankless grind that I'm doing. Please let me take that load off your shoulders. I actually want to do it.
Now, that that unpleasantness is over, i feel obliged to point out a couple of other truths to you. Staff who are forced into part time contracts but then rostered to work 6 or even 7 days a week in odd blocks of time ranging from 3 to 12 hours are not gonna be happy staff.
Staff who are forced to work 6 days a week to make up their hours because you don't want to waste resources on keeping a center open for that extra hour that is it's quiet time will not make staff happy.
Never introducing yourself to your staff since you took over your position 3 months ago so we have no idea who you are except the "cranky bitch we have to deal with if we are sick" will not make staff trust you or open up to you... or help you out if you are in a rostering bind.
And possibly the biggest news flash of all, if staff are not happy, they are scientifically proven to be more prone to taking time off and performing poorly due to depression, anger and a general feeling of "why the fuck should i bother if you can't throw me the smallest of carrots every now and then biach!!"
Sincerely, Sick, anoyed and disgruntled employee who don't give a rat's moldy fig about your PMS.
