[Email - Filtered to Corbin] Question

Ash wasn't altogether sure Corbin bothered to look at his journal, so he opted to send the other man an e-mail instead; it would at least assure that Corbin would see it. It was a bit of a delicate matter; he couldn't just post publicly about it anyway. Corbin was the only person he'd worked with in terms of media, so he was the first person Ash ( Read more... )

Well, from a personal standpoint I don't sell anything online. But I also don't sell to the public as a whole anyway, the legal issues are a little more demanding and difficult to work around for me compared to what you'd be doing.
Better exposure on pay sites, less competition on your own.
But whatever, you work out your business issues for yourself, not getting involved in that mess with enough of my own to deal with.

It's summer, my hours are more limited this time of year, and my clients have more free time personally so I end up dealing with them more. But I can work something out with that much notice, it would probably have to be a weeknight though, I'm just flat too busy days/weekends until winter when things drop back to me having more time and less to do in it.
I'll have to sort out rates though, I haven't worked strictly editing before, but I know a few people I've worked with in the past on that side of things and I'll see what rates they deal with.

I know I've got stock practically every, music, hell, I've got stock sounds even. Are you intending to do all of this in my studio?
If so I'll have to move some equipment around in there since the sound quality as it is really isn't all that great, the place is set up more for film than flat recording.
Not a big deal, just will mean I'll have to clear the place out for two nights instead of one.

I bet. How do you advertise -- just word of mouth? Or do you have a website, too? If you don’t mind me asking.

Week nights are fine for me. As soon as we pick a specific date, I’ll be sure not to schedule anything else that night.

If it’s not too much of an inconvenience, I wouldn’t mind recording in your studio. I guess I’d rather go just to someone I already know for the whole process than attempt to rent out a sound studio somewhere else, not knowing if the owner would be cool with what I’d be recording. I’m sure I don’t have to remind you about the unfortunate stigma attached to our work.

Stock sounds would be awesome. And if you don't have what I need, I'll bring some of my equipment so I can make the sounds.

I have a very narrow window of clientele, everything is basically word of mouth. But it gets around when you have such a specific target audience and it's a smaller field of competition for me in general. You on the other hand, I don't know, you probably need some exposure and especially in this city.

Yeah, I don't care about using the studio, it's less hassle than me trying to pack equipment up and haul it over to some other place. Plus you end up with idiots that, yes, ask a lot of annoying questions when their delicate sensibilities get rubbed the wrong way. I don't like to work outside my own studio anyway if I can avoid it.
I'll just clear it out a few nights, it's already soundproof anyway so it's not like you have to worry about background static or noise.

Email me later with what you might need and I can check, right now I'm at home so most of my sound files are at the studio, but I can check later this week when I'm around there. I've got to film something Thursday anyway, so I'll be around to check then. And yeah, bring whatever you want, I have no idea what all you might decide you want at the last minute.

I'll see what the next few months are like for me and find some time.

Wow, you must be really good if you can just rely on word of mouth. Not that I doubted that anyway, since I’m asking you to help me out.

Will do. And definitely e-mail me back when you figure out pricing. I’ll be out of town for the first couple weeks of June, so if I’m sporadic on e-mails during that time, I hope you'll forgive me.

Thanks, Corbin. I'm looking forward to working with you again.

It's not really what I want to be known for, but for the time being it funds my personal projects well enough. You have to be willing to deal with the strange ones though.
Not that you don't deal with a few strange ones yourself now and then.

Okay, it's going to take me a couple of weeks to get things in order anyway; week after this one is going to be busy and then I've got something to do myself around the first part of June.

Yeah, no problem.
