Almost three weeks since I last posted a journal entry. It's been eventful.

The short-term job I was working turned out to be even shorter-term than I expected. Well, good riddance to it; it was a pretty dysfunctional atmosphere. Anyway, I am now hitting the job trail once again and pursuing some interesting leads.

I've been staying busy. Weekend before last I attended a leadership training seminar, along with several other people from the local Party chapter, and we got lots of useful information. Middle of last week, I went to a candidate / volunteer event, which was mostly positive, but it was announced that our candidate for a local State House seat had just lost her husband.

Saturday I went to shul, where the mood was festive following the news of the demise of Hassan Nasrallah. I struck up a conversation with a Russian-born man who was interested in helping our candidate for County Commissioner to unseat the incumbent. He's become very concerned about several recent developments, and he worries that his adopted homeland may be going the way of the old Soviet Union - a fear he said many of his fellow Russian emigres share. I promised to follow up on his offer to help create Russian-language campaign materials.

With what downtime I've had - between the job trail and the campaign trail - I've been exploring some online audio shiurim. The Orthodox Union has an excellent series of podcasts covering the daily Bible chapter on the OU cycle (currently Jeremiah 30). I'm continuing to follow the Daf Yomi (right now, Bava Batra 97) with Rabbi Wise, and the Chabad lesson on the weekly Torah reading - now Ha'Azinu, the last Sabbath reading of the yearly cycle.

And so, with Rosh haShannah coming up this Thursday and Friday, I've got a short work week in any event. I will be working and praying for a good and prosperous 5785. [321]
