Hmmm, "The faculty believe" may actually be correct. Because the faculty could be considered a unit. Like "the family decides to go out for pizza."

I assumed that since "faculty" is a unit of people, that it would act like "group," as in "the group decided to go out to eat."

The group can "decide" to go out to eat as well as "decides" to go out to eat.

"The group decide to go out to eat." Just doesn't work for me.

Also, when a group is presenting a united front and not deliberating between multiple options, it acts as a whole and therefore deserves a singular verb.
