Auto-bots....Roll Out!
So i was never a huge fan of the Transformers. I liked the old movie okay. Or at least, i pretty much liked Optimus Prime and the rest can go rust. Anyway, i went to see the Transformers this Friday with J. It was a pretty damn good movie. I was expecting great FX and action, of course and got that even more than i was expecting. But beyond that the movie was just fun! It was funny without being very silly for it's rating (major plus. I loath silly). The other thing that was great was that the bad guys were bad. They didn't skimp on the Evil-bot's disdain for humans. Some humans in the movie died some ugly deaths. Like J said, If there had been any gore or blood in the movie, this would have been an instant R rated movie. The bots were down right vicious to each other too. Some serious auto-bot on auto-bot crime in this movie. All truth be told, i might think a twice about bringing my kids to it. They would probably be lost in the cool FX and explosions, but there was some real underlying nastiness going on in this movie. Apparently, decapitation by sword is fine if its a robot! Great Stuff!
So all in all...i'd give this a 3 out of 4 stars. Maybe the best FX i have seen in a movie yet (it looked freaking real! I felt like one of those people runing around on the street trying to escape the crossfire between these giant bots and the military all trying to blow the hell out of each other and the city). It had some good humor. Some overacting by some bigger stars that really didn't need to be in the movie (characters yes, actors...no), ie Tuturro and Voigt. There was some gov't conspiracy stuff too.
If you like the Transformers...you've already seen this movie and geeked out.
if you like Robots...see this movie. The detail on these things were awesome.
If you like Mechwarrior or robot fighting games or just War movies...see this movie. Best mech fighting i have ever seen in a movie OR a video game. No comparison. It was war in the streets with mechs, guns, blades, missiles, lasers, tanks, air support, everything!! WOW.
Basically, if you are a gamer geek or a sci fi lover.....go see this movie.
