Hi there, Yuletide Writer. This is my first year doing Yuletide, and let's just start off by saying how very excited I am about it. I'm so looking forward to getting a fic in any of the three fandoms I asked for!
I kept my prompts very general, but I thought I'd say a few more things here. I'm fairly open about what genres I'll read, but I'm very character-oriented. What interests me is the characters, who they are, who they could be, and what their life situations have made of them. If they're being contemplative and introspective, that's great. If they've having an adventure, that's great, too. If they're celebrating and happy, or grieving and sad, so long as they ring true and get a chance to shine, then I'm sure I'll love what you write, with only a couple of exceptions.
There are a few things I don't like. I'll say straight out that I'm pretty picky about shipping. I like canon ships and I'm very protective of those canon ships and don't like things that contradict them or threaten them. That's not to say I don't like romance, but I do, but when I said BJ and Margaret for my M*A*S*H characters and Vimes and Carrot for my Discworld ones, I wasn't looking for something shipping them, but focussing on their friendship. I'm also in no way interested in reading about rape or incest or excessive violence.
All the canons I picked have interesting and trying situations for the characters, and ideally, what I'd love to see is something focussing on how the characters deal with those situations. And I've selected characters whose interactions interest me. It's always the characters who draw me into something.
Here's a bit of an idea of what I'm talking about. For M*A*S*H, I'd love something about how friendship helps the characters deal with the war. That's always been one of the things that fascinates me about the show, and I love it as much for the drama as for the comedy. For Discworld, something about how the changes in the Watch have changed the characters, because it's been amazing to watch them grow over the series. For Dresden Files, something about how Michael's calling effects his life as a seemingly normal suburban man. The contrast between Michael the family man and Michael the warrior fascinates me.
These are only examples to help you get an idea of what I mean, you don't need to run with any of them. If the characters feel true and get a chance to shine, then I'll be happy.
I'm sure you'll come up with something amazing, and thank you in advance.
