It's not the angel/demon storylines I dislike, it's the inability of the showrunners to get to grips with them and do something decent with them. I mean having Heaven brought into the equation in Season 4 was a brilliant move - angels were dicks; powerful and in many ways, unpredictable creatures, and their agenda/s spiced up the overall arc beautifully.
Then TPTB saw how popular Castiel was, and started pressuring writers to keep him in the show. Then each show runner tried to replicate a little of the Season 1-5 magic but without having an overarching vision that would form a frame to hang their bits and pieces from.
So now we have a mishmash of options, and no cohesive vision of what to do with them all.
I was reading a comment somewhere (I think on Discord) that mentioned that Robert Singer is old school and doesn't understand the power of a single thread running through one or even several seasons. So the result is disjointed and patchy.
But like you, I watch for the occasional nugget of pure gold (which I have to say, is usually supplied by the Winchesters).

Still, there's plenty of magic between the boys. :)
