I know I shouldn't post this reaction because I really didn't like that episode but I feel the need to work out my thoughts so I'll put it here.
Please don't click and read if you loved it (and I know many did - I'm against the stride with this one *g*). I just feel like I'm getting closer and closer to being completely done.
(
they better have a damn good reason for this direction... )
Actually, I don't think you are being hypocritical about your reaction to Sam's death in Red Meat and Castiel's dying scene in this one. In Red Meat the pacing was superb. We thought Sam was dead because we saw that bloke kill him and because Dean thought Sam was dead. There was no 'milking it/last moments' scene, the story didn't even give Dean a chance to grieve - instead we were in the same state of shock as Dean was. I remember having similar "he can't possibly be dead" thoughts but those were subsumed by the evidence all pointing to Sam actually being dead. I was genuinely shocked and afraid in Red Meat.
This one on the other hand, felt like it was all set up specifically for the Castiel fans, to give them a moment. I am concerned that the show has done this several times this season.I don't mind them listening to fans up to a point, but to see them apparently adjusting storylines or adding in scenes that otherwise make no sense and also seem to be aimed at one small but noisy section of fandom? That makes me worried.

And I also agree on why Red Meat worked on a different level - the pacing was indeed fantastic. *happy sigh* what a great ep that was (and a Dabb one!)
