Poll 10.18

I definitely have stuff I want to say about this episode but I'm so short of time. Just returned from visit my family over east and now getting ready for my daughter's epic 18th party. I'd still love to know what you all thought of 10.18. In short, I loved it. The longer version will contain Sam stuff - and a slightly changed view of the show ( ( Read more... )

I am clearly wrong.

BUT

The one time you all fall in love with a Robbie episode! He is my favorite writer on the show and the one time everybody is so excited about an ep of his! ...

It was cool and nice, a good ep, just - like - it was - it lacked depth for me so I'm, like - go write me fic for this, it's a good basis ?

It was nice !

And I know I should never utter blasphemous concepts as this, but for all Felicia Day is AWESOME, it could have been good to get a bit more out of her acting, maybe.

No such thing as wrong! How we react is true, never wrong (which is why I get hurt when fans begin to reject each other based on being "negative" about certain aspects of the show). We each have things we love about the show and not every episode can fill everybody's needs.

Robbie is very much the "fan" writer - he gives us what we "think" we want. In many cases it is what many want, but not all the time. Sam's explanation of last season's words to Dean have come from the fan's push for it. I'm not complaining because I have been desperate to hear Sam speak, but it also shattered a lot of idea (for me) of where they might be going with Sam. Still, better than the last 17 episodes of (mostly) silence.

But I hear ya! It's not all going to work for everybody…;)

I wa kidding bout being wrong, though it does feel that way a bit.

I agree that Robbie tries to be in tune with fan, but I have more respect both for fans and for him. And I love how creative and unique his writing is, how much attention he puts into relationships and characters.

I've (nearly) always loved Robbie's episodes. I think he does have a good understanding of the characters and the SPN universe. I thought he did a great job of giving us Sam's pov, resolve Cas's grace, add to Charlie's storyline and move the MoC story along. Not an easy task.

Agreed
though I (also?) wish they'd used or left more open the interpretation of being possessed and body autonomy, PTSD etc

Maybe you'd like to tell us more about that?
For me everything in the episode confirmed what I'd already thought about Sam's perspective. But then ever since Sam's development "clicked" for me in last season's finale I've been unable not to interpret everything in line with that, so maybe I'm just incapable of seeing his words in any other light.

Haha1 I'm going to try. Once I get a chance to write down some thoughts. :)

I thought I understood Sam's perspective until the end of S9 finale and then it was all shot to hell with his "I lied" line. I know that was Jared's so it massively confuses where I thought they were taking him in S9. I think they've had to do a re-set because of that and in some ways that episode was a fix-it for what happened last season (well, an attempt at it anyway). Unfortunately it doesn't address Dean's role in what happened so I'm still hoping they'll address that at some point (though I think it's mostly been forgotten now).

Hopefully I'll be better able to articulate some of that later. ;)

I thought the "I lied" line was really beautiful, though I can't believe that anyone actually took it literally (apart from Jared!). Dean was dying, there was no time to discuss Sam's complex inner life. And even if there had been, it's not like Dean would have understood any of it. I mean, he never really got why Sam was angry with him in the first place.

I don't think Dean's role in S9 has been forgotten - at least not by Metatron who brought it up in 10x10, and will undoubtedly address it again, given the chance. He always excels at holding up a mirror to TFW.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

I used to love Charlie very much, but I think that Robbie Thompson's lost his touch when it comes to writing the character - the first three Charlie eps were brilliant because of her, this one despite her being in it. Or so it seemed to me.
