Motels and Accommodations of Supernatural - Season 6

Part Two

6.10 Caged Heat
Accommodation: squatting in abandoned house
Location: Evergreen, MO (estimation)

This is a classy joint. I love how run down this place is and yet a painting and lamp still remains. Whenever we see the boys squatting it serves as a great reminder of their limited funds and nomadic lifestyle.

Other notable squats:

2.22 All Hellbreaks Loose Pt II
3.06 Red Sky at Morning
4.09 I Know What you Did Last Summer (Sam and Ruby)
5.03 Free to be You and Me (Dean and Cas)
6.13 Unforgiven

6.11 Appointment in Samara
Accommodation: Bobby's House
Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Sam just can't seem to stay away from his favorite accommodation. Love the lamps to the right.

6.12 Like a Virgin
Accommodation: 6 Pines Motel
Location: Portland, Oregon

I LOVE this room! It has all the classic features of a great Supernatural motel. It has a very cool pine themed room divider (including the "6" of "6 Pines Motel"), pine clad walls and pine furniture everywhere. The bedheads have been used many times before and if that rug looks familar it's because it appeared in Time is On My Side (check out all the prop reuse here). I love that lamp - it looks like it has silhouetted picture on it.

There's also a wonderful mural (see all the other murals that appear in the show here). It's a shame we never get to see the full picture.

It even has The Floor Plan

6.13 Unforgiven
Accommodation: Webster's Motor Inn
Location: Bristol, Rhode Island

Whenever I see a motel sign outside of a window, as we see here, it makes me wonder if they've actually made it or picked it up somewhere. This one looks huge.

The room divider reflects that of a spiders web (from the MotW) and if the curtains look familiar that because we saw them recently in Amelia's motel room in Season 8 and in episode 7.12 (Repo Man).

And look! The Floor Plan makes another appearance. :)

Squatting in abandoned cabin

Another stay in an abandoned house. This looks pretty dingy and I really hate to think of the boys sleeping on that bed and sofa. *cringe* The set designers do a great job of these abandoned houses.

6.15 The French Mistake
Accommodation: Jared's House and Highway 51 Motel
Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

This set is a mind spin! (just like the episode *g*). We have "Jared's" mansion, the interior of the fake "set" motel room and then the exterior of that same motel - but in the "real" world. I love that they have used the same bed covers from an episode earlier this season (6.02 Two Men and a Baby). How cool is that wall?!

I found the name of the motel in The Essential Supernatural book. I recognised all the motel graphics (on pages 126 & 127) except the HWY 51 Motel one. It was bothering me, so when I spied the rocket ship on the table I knew I'd seen it somewhere before. What a shame we never get a close up. What a great design. It's interesting that we do get a glimpse of the rocket ship design on the outside sign, but never see the whole thing.

The lotus lamp shade was also seen in 8.12 (As Time Goes By).

6.17 My Heart Will Go On
Accommodation: White Star Motel
Location: Chester, Pennsylvania

I really like this room. It seems to be faux deco - an attempt at being something classical, but not quite pulling it off. It makes me wonder if that is deliberate because of the nature of the episode (all is not what it seems). It also makes me wonder if it's suppose to be in a similar "style" of the Titanic era. The name of the motel "White Star" is the name of the company that owned the Titanic. I always love it when they use checkerboard flooring. Reminds me that they are often being "played" - as they were in this episode. There's also the bright red chairs - perhaps signalling danger.

6.18 Frontierland
Accommodation: None (saloon?)
Location: Sunrise, Wyoming

I don't think Sam and Dean are here long enough for an overnight stay so the saloon isn't really an accommodation for them. But it's such a cool set I had to include a cap of it.

6.19 Mommy Dearest, 6.20 The Man Who Would Be King and 6.21 Let It Bleed
Accommodation: Bobby's Place
Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota

6.20

Gorgeous shot of Dean sleeping in Bobby's living room. As in Good God Y'All (5.02), the boys don't seem to have a room or an actual place to sleep at Bobby's. Adore that we get to see them waking up in these sleeping positions.

6.21

This is a wonderful overhead shot of Bobby's living room. We get a lot of detail. *sniff* No more Bobby's house.

6.22 The Man Who Knew Too Much
Accommodation: Nite Owl Hotel Room 107 (aka inside Sam's grapefruit)
Location: Bootbock, Kansas

Once again we see Sam in his favorite bed in Bobby's panic room. Inside Sam's brain we get to see a motel that they had stayed in. I always love it when we get the motel signs. I love this one in particular - with an owl perching on the moon. The very same name and design was used in 5.05 (Fallen Idols). We also get a glimpse of the owl on the crescent moon in (6.05) Live Free and Twi Hard.

Another season of fabulous motels and accommodations. Hats off to Jerry Wanek and his design team once again.
