I'm a serious grump lately.  I've decided that I don't like my job anymore, my tummy's been hurting for a few days, Gammy is back in the hospital after a bad fall, and things in general just suck.  The harsh reality is that I have to stick it out with my job until we start a family and that could be a year or two away at this point.  There is way ( Read more... )

I'm hoping the baby thing will happen in the shorter term (next 18 months), and I'm not sure right now if I will want to take some time off to stay at home. If I do take time off I will probably need to choose a different career when I come back, and I feel like I can't switch jobs again after only a year and a half with PPC, then quit, then start a new career. It's just too much shuffling and I need to preserve my resume as much as possible given that I might have a lenghty gap in employment.

It's all hypotheticals at this point, and I'm hoping that I will start to like my new team lead more as time goes on. Maybe I'm just grumpy this week, who knows. I am definitely going to work more on my work/life balance and try not to work evenings and weekend anymore. No job is worth that!

it definitely seems like a damned if you do, damned if you don't. i think i can slack my way through the next year and focus on other more important things like getting healthy and preparing for a family. the whole thing is just depressing though. maybe i need to spend more time with jack =)

I know what you mean on that. Since I decided the woman who took over for Denis Leary is a goddamn whore I really don't give a rat's ass about my job. I deal with crap for my staff who I freakin love but goodbye is the extra effort. I'm done with the nights and weekends for the most part unless its something I actually deem critical instead of someone making a crisis out of bullshit.

Pretty much I just run interference so people do't give my staff crap at this point. And any "crisis" that I used to jump to get involved in and fix people's stupid mistakes I now just sit back and watch and so far not only has it saved my own sanity but also it doesn't make much difference :p People still run around like the sky is falling for days but things eventually work out. :p

I'm totally with you. I'm all about slacking and doing the minimum amount to keep my staff happy and keep the managers away from us. It just sucks when a job you really like suddenly changes, and then you feel like a schmuck for being so change-averse and miserable.
