Originally uploaded by liika. my grandparents drove me down to mcallen (texan border town) where i was picked up by a couple people from the program to drive down to monterrey. i pretty much slept the trip from mcallen to monterrey, but really wished i had a recorder or something on the trip from san antonio to mcallen. we were driving through the area my grandmother is from and that made her remember a lot of things and she told me all sorts of stories of her childhood and parents and aunts and uncles.
the pic is one of the views from the balcony in the building i'll be living in for the next six months. i really don't live in the middle of nowhere (we're actually in the middle of the city), but there's a park right across the street. the city is in the middle of a bunch of mountains, so it's definitely a pretty cool view. the last two days have been rather cool, from what i hear (yesterday was somewhat humid and high 80s?). and there've been storms, which isn't usual. it's been cloudy since i arrived and i definitely can't wait for the sun to come out. everyone here is pretty cool and it seems like it'll be a good time.
