[It's hard to say what one will see when they look at Mako Nakarai - she's feeling so many things at once that any one single emotion may be visible, or it may be a confused and confusing blend of all of them

[Despite his feeling his own fatigue, Aaron glances at the girl before him. She looks young and lost. It's an expression he's seen before, more than a few times on his travels prior to arriving in Rota and proclaiming that kingdom as his permanent home.

[Approaching her quietly and well within her line of sight, Aaron studies her intently. When was the last time she had a bite to eat? He nods to himself briefly and makes a small detour toward where kitchen and the bowl of bread he spotted on the counter. He grabs two pieces and returns to where she is, noticing she hasn't moved.

[When he reaches her, Aaron smiles gently and offers a piece of bread.]

Would you like a piece?

[She's so lost in her own thoughts that she doesn't notice the distant scrutiny, and when he speaks, she nearly jumps out of her skin.]

Oh - ! Oh, um... are you sure you don't mind?

Not at all.

[He smiles a little bit wider but doesn't take a step closer. By Aura, he needs to tread carefully. She's quite possibly on edge.]

In spite of herself, she smiles a little, only just visible as she accepts the piece of bread.]

[There it is, a smile. It's certainly a much better look on her face even if it's small.]

[That's when she remembers Koyemshi berating her for her haggard appearance, and realizes at once that she must still look that terrible. No wonder he brought her food. She looks away, obviously embarrassed.]

I... I was really busy before I was brought here, and it was important work. I didn't have time for anything else. I hope I didn't worry you.

I think... It's my job to worry about things. And People.

It's also a bit in my nature to help others, even those who don't want my help. [He smiles softly and tilts his head slightly down.] Though if you wish for me to leave, just say it. I don't mind.

I just thought you might like some company. And some bread.

N-No! No, I don't want that at all! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound like... I'm just not used to...

[Another small smile.] This is okay. This is nice.

So, how do you like the bread? I think they just baked it sometime earlier today.

Oh, um - it's good. I don't know if I've ever had fresh-baked bread before. It's soft.

Well finding yourself somewhere new and where there is no on you know around can be challenging but I'm sure you'll find a few new friends sooner or later.

We all seem to arrive here for the same purpose.

[Aaron blinks suddenly, staring at her in shock.]

You never had fresh bread? Ever?

[She's... not so sure about that, but she just nods, looking away a bit distantly.

Until he asks his question, which makes her blink right back.]

No, we mostly got our bread at the store, not a bakery. It didn't go stale or mouldy as quickly.

But fresh bread should always go moldy after a few days... Even if you bought from someone else.

[Long term food preservation? Never heard of it.]

It's always better to have bread a few hours after it was made, two days at the latest.

[She blinks, not yet used to this different worlds thing, then shrugs and takes another bite of her bread. No need to make things too complicated right now.]
