I doubt the gods would have kept you here had they decided that you were unsuitable for the task they have set before us. It's more likely that they simply decided that Freya would be a more suitable patron for you.

Yes, they probably have some use for me.

[Though, what that use is, he's still a little skeptical of.]

As for being more suitable... I wish everything weren't so mysterious. I still haven't been told what the purpose of these 'Houses' are.

I agree, it would have been useful if more information had been provided to us. And I haven't been here long enough to observe what commonalities those chosen for a house have, though I would be very surprised if there wasn't some pattern to it.

Even if there weren't a pattern... There must be a reason we've been divided like this. I'm just not sure I can believe it's something good for us.

[The most common proverb dealing with division is 'divide and conquer', after all.]

Perhaps not, but... Their motive could simply be to make it easier to manage housing for us. Given the number of us that seem to have been brought here, it would be rather unwieldy to try to house us all in one place.

Yes, that's practical. [And he's thought about it; isn't discounting it--]

But this is a city of 'gods', or so we've been told. At the least, there is nothing very 'natural' about the place. Would 'gods' be bound by such matters?

It's true that they might not be bound by such matters, but given the city's layout, the only section not under the dominion of a particular god is the central palace where we all arrived. So either they would have to house us there, or in one particular god's jurisdiction. I doubt the other gods would be pleased by the latter arrangement.

[Now that, he hasn't thought of. His response is slowed by thoughtfulness.]

So, we are reflecting their divisions, is what you're saying? [A bit ruefully:] Compared to that, the idea that they need more space... is a little less ominous.

Disagreements between gods is hardly unheard of among the myths of many countries, but the degree of hostility there in can vary quite considerably. And even in normal families favoring one child over another can be a cause for discord. But when faced with outside threats, both families and pantheons tend to band together to face them.

Do you mean... that division is nothing to worry about? For the moment.

I believe so. A certain amount of competitiveness between gods is only to be expected.
