Why not, after all

College essay update! I know you were wondering.

Here's the breakdown: six schools, eight short answers (ha!), seven essays. Three days, two recommendations, one writing sample.

My why Columbia essay is about Annie Hall.
My academic interests/why Brown essay is about myth-weaving orphans in Miami.
My a-little-more-about-yourself essay is about bookworming (how predictable!).
My why Barnard essay is about Columbia ;)
My daily tradition essay is about eating.
My fictional character essay is about Josef Kavalier.
My political issue essay is about the DREAM Act.
My writing sample is about Paradise Lost.
I have not started my why Bryn Mawr essay, my why Macalester essay, or my learning essay. I may have forgotten some others.

But I thought you'd like to know.

I went to Annie's Book Swap today and traded in old teenage girl books and some of Shakespeare's, uh, lesser plays for ten new (and by new I mean very used and battered) paperbacks... Catch-22, A Canticle for Leibowitz, Women in Love, The Shipping News, The Invisible Man, Bonfire of the Vanities, some Zelazny book, and a few others.

...Maybe this has something to do with the fact that it's one o'clock and I'm listening to the soaring choruses of a Broadway love song, but I'm in one of those itching romantic moods. I think I would like to fall in love with someone who agrees we should spend our Christmas money on cheap plane tickets to California where we could sit on docks or laundromat washing machines and read old battered sci-fi books to each other.

This is probably not everyone's idea of romantic -- but why not, after all.

sci-fi, college apps, love
