Because really what villain wouldn’t want to use the law to get their way. It makes them devious and and just exceptionally cruel. When I first found this list of prompts I was nearly positive my answer would be the same it always is, Ursula, the sea witch. She messes with true love, has an excellent solo, two moray eel minions who aren’t actually stupid. And hey she stole the broadway show. Yet I recently got into ABC’s Once Upon A Time, so now I must ask myself what makes a villain, a villain. Rumplestiltskin/Mr Gold, as portrayed by Robert Carlyle, is an awesome villain, who’s not really a villain. I mean he does do some questionably moral things but people come to him and it’s not his fault they don’t read their contracts before signing. He warns them, “all magic has a price,” and still he gets blamed for things. And the things the didn’t have to do with deals, like Gold beating the crap out of Mo French, yea totally provoked. He acted upon information that he had (that Maurice shunned Belle and caused her death), and that Mo stole the one thing he had left of Belle. Yea I’d beat the crap out of someone too. Especially since he thought he had protected her by letting her go.
Yea. Rumple is a piece of work, but a good villain, who has good reasons for doing what he does, and in reality he’s probably going to be the reason everyone gets saved.
