Cell Phones and Politics

I'm pondering buying a cell phone. It would be nice to have my own phone number and my parents have been getting annoyed at not being able to contact me when I travel around. I'm trying to go for a reliable service, a low cost, and a phone that works and is easy to use. I don't needs the bells and whistles. What's the point of a camera phone with video games if you can't figure out how to turn off the ringer, or it breaks ever other week. What wireless services do people reading this blog use? How good is your phone?
