so, it was an... interesting weekend, to say the least.
i got to meet not one, but 2 of my lj friends--
soan and
suiaden--at a mall. it was fun. -^_^- i got the 6th nausicaa book for a friend of mine (she had volumes 1-7, except for #6), and i got myself the vertical horizon "everything you want" cd (on sale, reused-hui! oh, and i learned in latin on friday that "hui!" is roughly the roman equivalent of "whee!") as well as the first hellsing manga. i also got a lot of drawing done on the train (granted, a lot of it is pretty rough and done in purple pen O_o but whatever). oh! and i got a really nifty icon from
suiaden picturing the end of the noah's arc story, and the bag he brought it in. so, yay free stuff. ^_^ however, i was having trouble sleeping last week, and saturday night was no exception. this irritated me especially because i really wanted to go to church yesterday, and i told God as much, but the only answer i got was that i slept from about 6 am sunday morning till 8 am today (ie monday), with few interruptions (around 9 phone calls O_o and one two hour stint where i woke up, ate something, took some of my sleeping meds, and went back to sleep). i needed it more than i knew, i guess, because while i'm awake and in *really* high spirits, even for me, i could curl up and take a nap right now and i'd fall asleep with no trouble. latin was fun, i managed to get some work done before class and quite a bit more done in class, and ended up *not* sounding like an idiot when the proff. asked if i could read my answers. more highlights of that later (hui! or something). women's chorale sang in chapel, and in latin, so that was cool. and in greek we translated a random aesop's fable-esque story our proff. gave us. it was fun.
i think 24 nearly consecutive hours of sleep is some kind of record for me O_o
oh, and when i was waiting to get off of the train (the wheaton college ave. station is about a block and a half from my dorm), a really cute asian guy started kinda hitting on me. we chatted (he was getting off of the train at the same stop) until he had to head over to his apartment, and he seemed really nice. so that was delightfully random, and unless he's some sort of stalker-tastic sociopath, i doubt i will see him again, but oh well. it made me feel pretty. *shrug*
now, for latin highlights!
o genus humanum, quod mortem nimium timet! cur pericula mortis timetis? omnia mutantur, omnia fluunt, nihil ad veram mortem venit... id quod fuimus aut sumus, non cras erimus.
"o human race, that too easily fears death! why fear the dangers of death? all is being changed, all flows, nothing comes to true death...that which we were or are, we will not be tomorrow." from ovid's "metamorphoses," the prose adaptation
malum est consilium quod mutari non potest.
evil is the counsel which is unable to be changed.
fas est ab hoste doceri.
it is right to learn from an enemy.
amor misceri cum timore non potest.
love is not able to be mixed with fear. (reminds me of a verse i know... "perfect love casts out fear" or something. i'll look that up and post it later--probably in greek and english ^_^ mwa ha ha ha h! i am a language geek)
and, because it's me, some song lyrics (dealing with, as far as i can tell, how fscked up our "commercial christmas" is getting to be).
"have it all"
/ counting down, expecting latest, greatest / newest model maybe, hope /
/ wishing hoping praying / to outdo the joneses /
/ squalor, impulse, crowding / tis the season /
/ do the days turn just for these? /
/ savior born in a manger / please forgive us born in the inn /
// heaven tomorrow / heaven, my chance / to have it all /
/ see all my glimmereing weakness /
/ here's my world come on / will You / come in? /
/ brought to my knees / Child i'll play for You //
/ Child enters in this world, it's broken / angels sing and men sleep / the night /
/ though it's brazen and defiant / please / be born in my heart /
// heaven tomorrow / heaven, skies open / pour out hope /
/ see all my glimmering weakness /
/ here's my world, come on / will You / come in? /
/ brought to my knees / Child i'll play for You //
--"have it all"--ace troubleshooter
more later. probably nothing of consequence.
