In Gainesville this weekend, I was introduced to a guy named Seth and a band he listens to occasionally.
Now, I say you should listen to a little two-piece mindfuck called Lightning Bolt. I'd bet good money, if I had it, that most anybody who hears them would say "What the fuck?" and hate them immediately. But that's not the point. SOMEBODY else in this world is going to hear them and feel the way I do, which is more along the lines of "What the fuck is wrong with this band and how did they get so goddamn awesome?"
The drummer uses a pretty small, simple drum set, and he sounds like he's on speed, which is somehow laced with super speed or something to that effect. The bassist uses a lot of distortion and a banjo string for the bottom string on his bass. He's aided by the same substance as the drummer, or perhaps one that was laced with ludicrous speed instead.
Like I said, you probably won't like them, but you MUST find out for yourself. It's worth a shot, especially if you've ever wondered what the apocalypse might sound like.
