#2) Kafka on the Shore - Haruki Murakami
This book turned up on a number of "best of 2005" lists. At the beginning, I really liked it. It was very strange (men who talk to cats, raining fish, Colonel Sanders, etc). I'm not sure I really understood the end of the book though. I feel like a lot was still unresolved.

That's pretty typical of Murakami. He's one of my favorite writers, but he doesn't really feel the need to tie everything together at the end. It seems to be pretty typical of the Japanese magical-realism style.

Try Banana Yoshino if you like him. Kitchen is one I liked.
