I really only have 140 character's worth of interesting notions in a day, so Twitter seems to be a better platform for me. What's new since August 3? I'll go in reverse order.
Sara G. had her baby (!!!) named Coltrane James. Haven't met him yet, but hope to tomorrow when his momma's feeling up to visitors.
Friends (including Sara, who made a rather heroic effort to (a) go out in the evening and (b) make a delicious blueberry cake, whilst nine months pregnant) threw me a delightful birthday get-together featuring two dips and three desserts. The dips disappeared before the end of the evening, but I've been enjoying the desserts every day since. Neal's *amazing* apple cranberry crisp is almost like eating granola for breakfast. If granola involved two sticks of butter.
My 30th b-day present is the second-most epic ever (next, of course, to my wedding): Simpson's Party Pinball! I've wanted a pinball machine ever since Knight Rider taunted me from the back of Ivanhoe's Daylight Donuts. It really surprised my parents to learn this, incidentally.
Did some work on the garden -- too boring to mention, but e-mail if you want to talk coreopsis.
Sylvia came up for a visit that was tons of fun when I wasn't at work (been there a lot since June). Also, she is now gainfully employed in a job that I believe would make just about *any* bleeding heart liberal proud. We went out to see her folks while she was here, and I left with a car full of produce. I'm pretty sure her mom would have sent me home with the dog if I had asked.
Those are the highlights. I don't know what it is about fall that makes it my favorite season. Maybe it's unpacking my sweaters. Maybe it's the hail of acorns on the roof, or the absence of mosquitoes. At any rate, on this, the eve of fifth day of my thirtieth year I am quite content. Most everyone I know is healthy and well, a dear friend has a beautiful baby boy, and I've achieved three of my childhood wishes: a two-story house with wood floors, a dog, and a pinball machine. Next up: pony.
Actually, next up is a new furnace. Which I now feel I must name Pony.
