Joss Whedon is a sadist. ascii_70_85 October 1 2005, 03:46:06 UTC
We're probably reading each other's reviews at the same time.
Probably.

For me, I really didn't have any expectations.
Did you read my 'anticipation' post (it was back-dated yesterday, now not.)? i.e. I was expecting too much.

I knew it was gonna be focused on River, so for that I'm glad.
I knew that too. Not to the same degree perhaps. I knew 'River and Reavers'. I think I might have known this before the script was written. I heard something about it, back in 2003 or so, I think.

But I knew I had to watch this seperate from the show.
a) Yes, of course.
b) ... and how is that done?

You LOVE the show so much that you expected too much, I think.
There's no 'think' -- I expected too much.
Though many of my complaints are still valid, and I stand by them.

I read or heard somewhere that when Whedon was writing this, he had 900 pages when he was done... the amount for another season. So obviously there was much cutting.
Like Wash and Book {peeve-ness}.
I say don't bite off more than you can chew. This is sort of BtVS S7 syndrome. Though if he hadn't've done that we wouldn't've had Firefly in general I suppose.

I knew the Book issue would piss you off, and it was from my impression that he left because the ship stuff was a bit too much. But you are right, they tease so much about his past that it would be almost pointless for them to have said anything at all if they don't go back to it at all.
I refuse to accept it.
They can still tell that part of the story. It's a cheap, manipulative, cop-out if they don't.

I didn't need them to tell it, this time. In fact I was hoping they'd keep some secrets, but to shut the door on that is a bit much. I think, and very cruel. Especially after 3 years of waiting.

Actually I was more upset about Wash.

A random search turned up this guy, who sort of captures how I felt.

It's been getting fair reviews. Lots of comparisons to Star Wars, which isn't surprising. I think reviewers are making this comparison so that people who WERE disappointed by Star Wars, they'll see this instead knowing a bit more what to expect.
Yeah, you say Ebert likes it? {surprised}.

I liked Episode III, of course I didn't expect much, after Episode II, which I really didn't like. Though yes, this has verbose dialogue by comparison {eye-roll}.

Who does thedailysong tonight?
too complicated... I made this one up a while back, but didn't use it for some reason.

As per 'Blue Sun' consult your DVD mini-documentary 'Making of Firefly', it's about ½ hour (they touch on 'Blue Sun' for 13 secs). Or don't, and be surprised for next time?

I don't know if it was supposed to mean anything at the time, but didn't River slash through the logo on Jayne's Shirt in 'Aeril'?

Thank for your reply. Glad you liked it. Possibly more later (if that wasn't given).

You know, you don't have to post if it's not around your normal time or past a certain point that it's too late to be today's song or whatever. I've been busy catching up with my roomie and tv this week (she was away in Aussie for two weeks and I was forbidden from any tv watching), so I haven't even posted in s_a_d (haahaa) all week either.

I am to post after 8:00-10:00pm EST. After that it's 'open game' i.e. whoever gets there first, (At least this is my understanding).

... or past a certain point that it's too late to be today's song or whatever.
at 12:00pm it negates the point. However, it's thedailysong, if I don't post it's not ('daily') ... this makes me twitch (especially if I am able to post).

I don't mean to make you twitchy.

I'm just lazy sometimes. So I do appreciate you and stuff. Hopefully this coming week will be better, but remember Oct 6 and 7 I'll be out.

You can't make me anything...
I'm just twitchy it has nothing to do with you.
It's my inner-OCD-like tendencies.
Important stuff, I let fall apart. Trivial things... 'Must Have Order' (see twitchy status reports, or just glance back at weeks past in my journal).

I have a link somewhere... to such dates, but I forget. Long weekend to Memphis in lieu of New Orleans with your Mum? Graceland is like Mecca, you must make a 'pilgrimage'. I think I was too young to appreciate it the one time I went.

Thanks for reminding me.

I don't think Mom is interested in going to Graceland though. I don't care but I'd go for people who I know would love to see pics of the place.

BTW, I've updated that link so that you can see other shows that have been added.

What's in Memphis besides Graceland... there's Beale Street, and Sun Records ... ?

I've been through Memphis like 50 times... I usually didn't stop.

I think you should go to Graceland, unless of course you have something better to do, it's amusing.
