It was late I shouldn't have been up, but I was. I should have fired up the VCR and went to bed, unfortunately I didn't. However ... stuff so late does tend to be funnier.
I was flipping channels 'til I came across
this
on the God channel. Don't get me wrong, it's not 'Starship Troopers' good maybe not even
'Cool As Ice' good, but it was definitely up there. Certainly the best movie I've seen since Star Wars.
The trailer is also very good. This doesn't really capture the wonder of the movie, but some of the reviews are pretty good. (...)-------------------------------------------------------
I think it's interesting they are glorifying the 1890's. Yes, it's too bad we cannot go back to then when everything was perfect.
Also an amusing point since the political religious right, people are associated with wanting to go back to the 1950's... {facetious gasp}! Those vile heathens!
Good thing they didn't think about how this could back-fire!
First I hate to be all P.C., but it's funny how come he doesn't remark on black and hispanic people walking around doing this or that.
Second ... I find it confusing ... his morals are completely out of step... I'm not talking he's not about sexual this and that... which many people are not about... but In the movie a child was watching two people kissing on tv, Mr.1890's was appalled ... people shouldn't kiss in front of children. Then he found out they weren't married!!!
Someone supposedly blasphemed while he was watching a movie. This was terribly upsetting to Mr.1890's...
My old roommate, a then children's minister, told me this is always misconstrued. 'Taking the lord's name in vain' is not using it as a curse or not just using it as a curse ... it's more 'God needs you to give me your money so I can build a new church it's what god wants.' I could be getting it wrong and he could have it wrong... but it's amusing to think about such people misunderstanding, screwing up, and walking over their own 'laws'.
Today, it is often mistakenly interpreted as prohibiting swearing. This has nothing to do with its original meaning. Another favourite part of the movie... people didn't bring the time machine back from the future. It was made earlier in that century, by a white-haired character's father. See they were able to make better use of the sciences by relating them to christian values, another theme touched upon throughout the film.
Another one of my favourite aspects is the fact that apparently people in the 1890's do not use grammatical contractions (see the trailer). Such things must be an affront to God!!!
I will not spoil the ending for you. I found the very last scene to be very good, poignant, and powerful {facetiousness}. Overall, an amazing motion picture.
