Stay weird

You know, when I sat down to watch the Oscars this afternoon I already knew who the winners were. I knew Benedict hadn't won (not that I was expecting him to since everyone was busy kissing ER's ass... lol!) and I knew that "The Imitation Game" had only won one of the few thousands awards it deserved eight Oscars it was nominated for. What I didn't ( Read more... )

rl, me: the idiot, ramblings, meme, the imitation game, pictures, me: the sap, benedict cumberbatch, me: the bitch

Yes, he's being very friendly and it's pretty nice. My 15 years old self is doing cartwheels around the house for it, but I have to admit my crush is no more now so it's really just how good it feels to be appreciated :)

I cried at Graham Moore's speech... I had no idea he'd gone through such hard times when he was young and his message touched me to the core. I'm so proud of the recognition he got and it helps prove my point: *this* is the reason why TIG deserved so many more awards!

The only good thing about the fact that Birdman got Best Picture is for me that at least it didn't go to The Theory of Everything. LOL! I'm so bitter but I couldn't stand to have that movie win another thing!

Can't wait to watch Broadchurch myself, tbh. Hopefully we get some resolution because as soon as I read that it had been renewed for season 3 I started panicking... happy to get the show back but hopefully this doesn't mean a cliffhanger!!!

they really were the Queen and King on the RC

Sophie's dress was stunning, though I have to admit I much preferred the one by Valentino she wore the night before. As soon as I saw that dress I completely fell in love with it and to see her wearing it so beautifully was such a joy! I love to see dresses I like worn by people and not just models :) All this said, the red dress was very classy and she looked beautiful on the RC. Ben, otoh, eh... not a fan of the white jacket tux I'm afraid. I commented to a friend saying that he looked like the most gorgeous waiter or ice cream vendor I'd ever seen *g*

They looked happy. That's basically all that matters :) *points to icon*

No one deserves more than you to feel appreciated. *hugs*

I read somewhere that Graham Moore said how close the TIG family had become in their endeavour to tell Alan's story, how moved he was to see Benedict and Keira crying when he left the stage after he received his award. Aww. That's why I love these people so much. =)

Would like to hear what you thought about the ending for S2 of Broadchurch. :)

Heh, I am with you in that I wasn't too fond of the white jacket, but at least he was easy to spot. :p And I think it was a good match with Sophie's dress and the old Hollywood glam they were going for. It wasn't my favourite dress on her but I think she wore it to perfection.

And I pity those who thought the PDA was for show. Sure, they are both professionals and know how to pose and to give the photographers good ops in these situations, but come on, how cynic do you have to be to not see the genuine emotions underneath it. I pity them, truly. *points to your icon too*

Now, honestly, I am glad if I don't see his mug nowhere for the next 6 months at least. ;-)

I read that too! I think I reblogged something about that on Tumblr :) It was such a nice moment when everyone was crying and happy for Moore while he walked towards the stage to get his award.

Going to watch Broadchurch tonight so I'll be sure to get back to you later on!

I feel so sad for people watching a couple smile at one another and thinking, "Wow that's so staged!" instead of simply accepting it for what it is: two people being happy together. It takes a particular kind of person, I think, to immediately go to a negative place in front of a happy picture. I admit I can't understand the process behind that...

You know, since positive or neutral people (and I believe I'm the latter, tbh, because it's really nothing to do with me) are often called naive or even stupid, I tried to put myself in the negative people's shoes. The result? Well I wasn't really able to do that because my (possibly stupid) mind isn't wired like that but I did realize that you can be skeptic of the "speed" with which all of this happened - you know the whole starting to see one another in September, engaged in November, baby announced in January, wedding in February thing - but the best I could come out with that could be seen as "not very nice" is that the pregnacy possibly was unplanned and that they are both people who don't want to have a child born outside of marriage so they moved the wedding sooner. Does this mean they wouldn't have gotten married if she hadn't been pregnant? I don't see how it could. Maybe they would have waited a few more months, or a year or 10, but maybe not. How can we know?

Yes it was very rushed but does this mean it's fake? How exactly can we go from "wow that was a bit of a head-spinner.... they went from dating to married and pregnant in the blink of an eye!" to "It's faaaaaaaaaaaaake! OMG maybe she isn't even pregnant!"?? It's beyond me.

The timing was unfortunate what with the campaigning for the Oscar and all but to take these simple facts and turn everything into whatever disgusting theory is floating around the net today... it takes a special kind of person, that's all I can say.

Oh and 6 months? There were papped pics of them today :( They'll never get the honeymoon/nesting time they deserve and I'm sorry for that. Hopefully they'll still have a wonderful time in LA.

Grrrr about new pap pics. They should let them have their honeymoon in peace, really.

It speaks a lot of you that you tried to put yourself in the shoes of the hater brigade, something they probably never did. But, you know, with them knowing "THE TRUTH" while we others are all blind and stupid they don't deem it necessary, of course.

I am with you all the way that I can't get into their mindset of trying to spin everything negatively or try to find hidden meaning in everything. It must be exhausting, and they sure seem fun to be around. Christ, imagine being friends with someone like that who is second-guessing everything you do ...

See, I am at a loss already when I read about speculations about timelines and people saying it was all rushed. Who are we to decide FOR THEM and apply our own standards of how-to-do-a-relationship on them. We all know that you can plan all you want and then RL has a way of getting in the best-laid plans.
If we are talking timelines I don't know where you read that they were together since September. If we take the indiscretion of the PBS lady, their appearances together at Hay Festival and the French Open, that makes it at least spring/early summer last year. And that is only where they were banned on photographs. Pics, or it didn't happen isn't really valid here imho. Not to mention that they know each other since at least 2009 when they filmed BF.
Taking their respective age into account I would assume they talked about possible children very early on, same for marriage. So, if that was decided anyway, the pregnancy maybe put the marriage on the map a bit sooner (as Benedict himself said on the RC, but according to the truther brigade we shouldn't take his own words for face value because it's all PR and he's trying to save his precious image *facepalm*) but I dare say not unexpectedly so. And I agree with you that they would have wanted to get married before the baby was born, not because we have 1950 but because that's what would feel right to them.

I am sorry, it really riles me up when I read the judgement on the progress of their relationship when, truly, we know nothing about them or what really occurred. It probably has a little bit to do with the judgement my parents had to face when I was on the way. Granted, they knew each other for 4 years already, but my mother was 8 months pregnant when they got married. And so it wasn't a happy occasion. More like what people would judge as shotgun wedding these days with a side dish of suspicion that my mother wanted to sneak into the family ... And yet, surprise, I haven't seen a happier marriage then the one of my parents.

And I fully agree with you, to turn the pregnancy into some Oscar campaigning stunt is so laughable, I can't even ... You are so right that it takes a special kind of person to think that way. We are talking about actual human beings here, fcs. Imagine telling your child: fun fact, you were only conceived so your dad could win a shiny gold trophy. That didn't work out and now we are stuck with you ... *facepalm*

Sorry for ranting here on your journal. I tend to do that, don't I ... :/

Don't apologize please! I've ashamedly wanted to talk about this for ages but I've also been so torn... on the one hand I wouldn't want to expose people who remain blissfully ignorant to "THE TRUTH!!111!!" since I for one still wish *I* were ignorant of that, but otoh I so feel the need to say my own piece about this and would really like to do so. I've been alternatively wishing someone would ask me to talk at length about it and thinking it was better to be silent and forget about it. So *thank you* for talking about it with me and relieving me of my doubts! *squishes*

About the timeline, I had to take it for granted (although I too was kinda convinced they'd started seeing one another as more than friends since last summer) because apparently I'm a bad fan who doesn't keep track of all the things that happen in my favorite actor's private life and didn't know he'd been apparently dating someone else last spring/summer. Apparently he was photographed with this lady or there were articles about it? Don't ask me, I don't think I've ever seen anything about it but, I repeat, I don't keep up to date with everything *shrugs*

So IF it's true that he was seeing someone else and started seeing Sophie later on, they went from friends to married in the span of a second. BUT how in the world does this mean they don't love one another? Do we need to date someone for a few years before deciding that yes, we love them? Is this a rule? I know plenty of people that dated for years and didn't really love each other at all but were just together because it was a habit and "why be alone while we wait for the right one to come?" Not my thing but hey! Live and let live. But if that can happen, why can't the "I start dating you/fall in love with you/marry you" in the span of 6 months too?

Also, they maybe got married sooner than planned because they are expecting but there's no shame in that for one, and for another it doesn't make it a fake marriage done just for the baby (or the Oscar......)! You see, in a way I'm not even saying it can't be fake at all. I personally don't see why we should think that but since we don't know the truth, it could be fake. See? I'm open to other views even if I strongly disagree. BUT this also means that it can be as we say: love. And wouldn't it be better if it was? I'm saying all this to point out how I, neutral person (or nanny, even if I hate that! LOL), can give others the benefit of the doubt and say, "I believe they love one another but you might be right. I don't know. I hope with all my heart that you're wrong but you might be right." They don't give us the same courtesy. They know the REAL truth and we're a bunch of naive idiots.

Besides, hon, if one is supposedly a fan of an actor, and is one of the truthers shouldn't she actually hope she's wrong? Wouldn't it be so much better if she was proven wrong and we, nannies, were proven right? Isn't it better to imagine a man in love than a man who sells out for an Oscar? I don't get it. I truly don't.

Imagine telling your child: fun fact, you were only conceived so your dad could win a shiny gold trophy. That didn't work out and now we are stuck with you ... *facepalm*

Oh god I hadn't even thought of it this way.... absolutely awful! *shudders hard*

BTW, my favorite aunt and my favorite uncle got married because my aunt was pregnant with my cousin and they've loved one another for almost 30 years now in a way I've seen very few couple do. What do you know? Shotgun marriages actually work! Boggles the mind ;)

I'm glad you feel the same need to discuss the situation, and there has always come something good out of our conversations even if we don't agree 100%. Thank you for laying out your own thoughts on the matter. I will take my response to e-mail, if that's OK.

I wanted to ignore the hate-brigade, I truly did. But it clearly didn't work to bottle it all up because for some reason this whole thing offends me on a deeply human level. (Exhibit A above, lol)

P.S.: I didn't mean to imply that you should keep taps on his every move, why should you. I don't do that either. lol I was just curious since you mentioned the September as a specific date.

I was just going to suggest emails, too, so thank you for reading my mind ;) Will be waiting to read your thoughts and to discuss things more with you.

Same for me. Part of it is actually the fact that the hate seems to be concentrated on Sophie's person. Now I don't know her and frankly if we're talking carreers I'm only interested in his because I'm a fan of his not of hers, but as a woman to see another woman vilified like that HAS to touch me on a personal level, too. But more on that by email.

I didn't mean to imply that you should keep taps on his every move, why should you. I don't do that either. lol I was just curious since you mentioned the September as a specific date.

You didn't! I've just read an aswer given to someone who was asking about the timeline and in that comment the person asking was basically made to feel like she should have never asked such a question because how can you not know every single thing about this man?? Dishonor on you! LOL! So I was just being sarcastic but of course referring to something you couldn't have know :)
