First of all a note to myself: when things are boring, don't complain. They might hear you and the result is the end of the boredom, maybe, but the beginning of something not really that pleasant. So, really, be bored and STFU.
Now, for the quote. Yesterday evening I was watching a movie called
Common Ground which is an LGBTQ movie that features three different stories dealing with coming out, ignorance, intolerance and love. They're all so very well told and heartwarming, even if there are scenes that made my heart hurt. If you are able to find a copy, you should watch it. I highly reccomend it.
The quote comes from the second story. Toby, an 18 years old boy, struggles with the feeling that he might be gay, he's bullied and his coach sends him to a prostitute... yeah, I know. Anyway, the prostitute is amazing and, after she asks Toby if he feels he may be gay and after Toby answers that he doesn't know, she tells him:
"Being gay is not the end of the world. It doesn’t even make you special; it’s just something else about you. You still have to wake up like everybody else, and brush your teeth, and try to get through another day just like every other human being."
I completely love it. I always had issues with the word "normal", a word that's usually used to dig an abyss between those who fit into a category and those who don't (I hate categories, too.) But this time allow me: the sentence I quoted is perfection for me because it shows how being gay is truly nothing to talk about, nothing special, you're absolutely normal. One may wonder why it seems so hard to understand....
Have a good weekend, everyone!
