Suspicious Truth
Who: Michael Corner, Ron Weasley and Oskar Scamander; NPC "Nigel."
What: Aurors Weasley and Scamander investigate Michael's case at the behest of Nigel.
When: May 4th, 2000; Early evening.
Where: Duarth House, well outside of rural Cardiff, Wales.
Status: Ongoing.
Rating: PG-13.
"Are you hungry, then Michael?" It was Stuart, a balding man on the Twinnings team with a handlebar moustache of snow white and bright, liquid eyes. The Scot sort of reminded Michael of Flitwick- if Flitwick had been six feet tall that is.
Three men trudged through the rain and sloppy peat towards Duarth House. "No, I'm just going to go to bed honestly. Maybe write my mate." Michael's hands were shoved into his wool coat pockets. He didn't look defeated, but he did look tired. His limp was noticeable, both from the splinch and from Zacharias shoving him a couple of days ago. And he was favoring the side that wasn't still a little sore from his mended rib.
Nigel looked on at the youngest member of their team. He hadn't told Michael the surprise that awaited him- one spurred by his conversation with Kevin Entwhistle the night before. Something felt... fishy. And so he called the Auror Department in. Admittedly it sounded rash- it was just a job for the MLE, but Nigel was still prone to those kinds of reactions despite his British exterior.
Lighting a pipe up, Nigel waved out his match. "I'll need a few moments of your time, Michael. Nothing serious."
Michael looked back over his shoulder at the man, smelling the cinnamon-vanilla of his tobacco. "No problem," Michael replied neutrally, casting his gaze down the drab green moor broken by the rolling Belwyns, and the inn that was nestled there within the Yews. He didn't ask what about- his mind was all about a warming drink, a clove cigarette and then bed.
Nigel too looked to the house and then to his watch. They may be meeting with Madam Windemere as we speak... he thought to himself, thinking fondly on the rotund Welsh redhead who managed Duarth House. Soon they would be inside, warm and dry, but there would also be questions.
