And we will paddle out
Naked,
Bare boned
Reminded of our faults
Reveling in
A rumpus of
Night
released from gravity
And filled to saturation
With courage and success
No fear of reprisal only
Rhythms that celebrate
Alignment
between ears and hearts,
former friends now torn apart
Eyes renew a twinkle
Exalted
Enwrapped in precious childhood dream
Of what once was and what could be
Patterns that make the blood beat
the emergent taps of cold feet
smiles crackling like embers
From a moment of passionate awakening
Of clarity about why
we live this way
Between turf wars and
Corporate ladder climbs
What's radical
What is still divine in
Our creation, a day spent humbly
A day unwasted
What gifts must we return
Before another sun's day burns
And we surrender
Before the white flag
decide
What makes you take your belt off
What makes you jump on the bed and let your hair fall
Unkempt,
Uncurled
Tendrils reaching other dreaming
Unshackled boys and girls
What makes you cry in ways
That spill the tears through
Cracks in your face you never show
Laugh lines and aging neck folds
To back bend through an evening as if history never told you that you couldn't
sit vulnerable with a friend and just say everything you meant
A cultural unraveling
A fugitive from propriety
Fuck social norms and mores
Who invented those anyway
The kind that say smart people don't talk about what hurts them
Don't talk about where they came from
Or where they'd hope to be
Fear penetrating, percolating
Stabbing up from beneath the surface
Boiling loudly under epidermis
Dimming down the soul.
And tonight's light it sweeps down slowly
From the moon like a cradle
She is sad, reaping sadness
Like an undulating wave
it does not cleanse
But covers up all the old scars again
And we will paddle out
To this lunar landing
Nourished by redemption
Naked,
Bare boned
Reminded of our faults
And we will find ourselves wading
In waters
with no floors.
