Chapter Ten:
...New Home(Part Two)...
“Woah!!! So now for today’s Utaban’s show here’s ARASHI!” Nakai said as he smiled. Unusually standing up to welcome the Arashi members, who were actually twenty minutes late for the scheduled film-time.
Ishibashi threw a questioning look at each of the Arashi members who only gave him the same expression. They were all confused by Nakai’s attitude. He looked very pleased to see them despite being late for several minutes.
Ohno thought it was to bring back their ‘routine fights’ for the show, but now, he doesn’t feel like he can retort the words Ishibashi was going to tell him. He wasn’t quite in the mood to be active for his first appearance back in the studio; after the healing of his injury.
Although he was the exact reason why they were late for the filming, he had planned to stay silent as much as possible for the rest of the show.
The accustomed flow of the talk portion went normal and quite plain. It seemed as if they were all thinking of the same thing-noticing how Ohno was superbly quiet and not really listening, compared to his ‘only-occasional-spacing-out-moments’. This time, he was more solitary. It gave them a feeling that Ohno wasn’t really in the mood to participate in the conversation. And Nakai was also acting quite out of normal; including Jun’s distant attention of the topic.
The show was almost affected by their behaviours.
“So Ohno-kun...” Nakai said, using his usual tone, but almost hesitating. “Are you alri-Is your injury fully healed?” He asked.
Ohno barely heard it, but he nodded at Nakai and said “Yes,” softly.
“I heard you have many projects with Toma-kun.” Ishibashi said.
Suddenly, Ohno was up to listen.
“Uhh...yes.” He responded, thinking for awhile. “We’ll actually have a single-episode show.”
“A special?” Nino asked, quite surprised by this announcement.
The other members’ reaction was also the same.
“Hm.” Ohno nodded again. His eyes moved and widened for a second. Slowly, a surprised smile appeared on his lips.
Jun noticed this sudden change in his Riida’s expression and followed where his eyes were directed.
Before he could make any reaction, Ishibashi reacted first.
Toma just entered the studio, but he only stayed at the back of the cameramen and the other filming staff.
Ishibashi was signalling him that it was alright to join the filming since they were currently talking about a show featuring him and Ohno.
Toma waved his head in embarrassment and just stayed quiet.
“Oi Toma-kun! You can come here!” It was Nakai who said the invitation out loud.
Because of this, Toma was insisted to join the filming. A chair was offered to him and he sat beside Ohno, who smiled at him once he was settled.
“Ooohhh...I haven’t seen that kind of expression on your face since we started today’s show.” Ishibashi said to Ohno.
“Eh?” Ohno asked. Toma looked at him; his face was just two inches apart. Feeling quite embarrassed by his own reaction, Ohno suddenly looked away-unconscious of how his cheeks blushed lightly.
Ishibashi laughed.
“Did you two do something? Why are both of you embarrassed in front of the camera?” Nakai said with interest. He could sense that something was going on between the two. That they were hiding something.
“Are you hiding something from us, riida?” Aiba asked, failing to control his curiosity.
“No! No...we’re not...hiding something.” Toma was the one who answered.
“Why are you the one answeri-“
Ishibashi was interrupted by Ohno’s diversion of topic.
“Hey! Isn’t Utaban a show for promoting our new single?”
All of them became speechless at the rise in volume of Ohno’s voice.
Everyone stared at the oldest member of Arashi.
...
Tonight’s storm was not predicted by the weather forecasters.
It was strong. Ohno and Toma can hear the heavy drops of water pouring over the roof. Toma’s condominium unit was actually the pent house. They can clearly hear the loud taps of water touching the building. It was echoing. It was quite disturbing.
Toma shifted on his bed, thinking about Ohno. The older man’s room was the one near the side of the kitchen. He was worried if Ohno could sleep in this kind of weather. With the droplets of rain pouring hard on the roof, even Toma cannot seem to sleep with this noise almost echoing throughout the condominium. He shifted again, pulling his blanket over his head-when a sudden strike of lightning sparked on his window, followed by the crashing roar of thunder-making him instantly sit up on his bed. The sudden loud sound made his heart pound on his chest. It almost shocked him for the loud thunder came without warning.
“Crap...that scared me.” Toma said under his breath, preparing to lie down on his bed again.
Before his head touched his pillow, he sat up again when he saw a glimpse of a shadow that was moving on the other side of his door. He only saw it move once and then it stopped.
He was going to ignore it, thinking that it might just be the shadows of his appliances being touched by the glow of the lightning, but realized he was wrong when the shadow moved again after another crash of thunder.
“Oh-chan?” He called out as he was slowly getting out of his bed.
There was no answer, but a creak of the floor.
Toma then decided to skulk his way to the door. When he opened it, Ohno was about to silently go back to his room. Toma reached for his shoulder, making Ohno flinch in surprise.
“What’s wrong?” Toma asked softly.
Ohno was only silent. He waved his head as if to say there’s nothing wrong. He started walking away from Toma’s room.
At the same time Toma grabbed Ohno’s arm, there was another thunder that bellowed as loud as the first one. He immediately felt how Ohno’s body shivered from the terrifying sound and knew at once why Ohno was outside his room.
“Do you want to share the room with me for tonight?” Toma offered.
Ohno faced him in surprise. After a few moments, he looked away as if in thought.
“N-No...no thanks. I-I’m fine.” There was a lightning. “I’ll...go back to my roo-...Toma!”
Toma pulled the arm he was holding and pushed Ohno inside his room.
“I don’t have an extra futon. My bed is wide so we can sleep together here.” He said, ignoring Ohno’s protest that was also being impeded by the thunder and lightning.
He didn’t let go of Ohno’s arm until he had led him towards the bed and had pushed him to lie down on it. He knew Ohno was going to stand up and go back to his room so Toma held him again as he lied down. Ohno was trying to move his arm away from his waist so he can stand up, but the younger man’s grasp on him was firm.
“Toma...I’m going back to my room...” Ohno whispered. He was embarrassed about his current situation.
Toma was practically embracing him. Toma was hugging the whole of his torso, making their bodies pressed against each other. After several moments, the younger man’s one arm loosened as he grabbed for the blanket to cover the two of them.
With the continuous loud crashing sounds of thunder, Ohno slowly submitted himself to the presence of warmth beside him. Despite being embarrassed by his childish fear, he let himself be tucked under Toma’s hold. The younger man’s tender embrace was comforting. It made him feel secured. There was a different sensation he cannot quite comprehend. But it was relaxing. It was something...he would want to have for the rest of his life.
He was thankful...for his mother’s idea to live with Toma.

Toma’s lips curved into a smile as he felt Ohno relax. He pulled the older man closer to him and had slowly buried his head on Ohno’s neck; breathing on his hair. Ohno didn’t seem to mind. He even leaned backwards on his intimate touch. Toma half-opened his eyes and kissed Ohno on the part at the back of his ear.
“Oyasumi.” He whispered.
But Ohno was already in a deep slumber.
