Well, we tried to keep it as well redacted as possible. We are sorry if it came out long, but we tried to be as specific and polite as possible, and we are really sorry if that took away points.
While all you said are valid points, what Yoh and I feel is that if the members no longer have the passion, or time, or interest, then it’s better for all parties involved to do this, don’t you think? We wouldn’t feel frustrated over the numbers of lurkers, and they won’t have our unnecessary posts in their friend page.
I know that the anime has died a long time ago, but what we are discussing here is not this being an old flame, which we know it is, but the fact we get about 3 new members every week, and maybe once says something once a month.
Besides, the whole point of this post was one thing only: we are not asking you to be active, post things yourself, or anything like that. What we ask is that considering they do download and see the things everyone uploads, the least they could do is leave a small message. I really apologize if you guys feel this is asking too much, but we don’t really feel it is like this. I own other club in deviantart, a fandom that has died several years ago (Invader Zim) and it’s one of the most active clubs I have ever seen, and it’s VERY largely because there is such a supportive fanbase as it is.
It wasn’t easy for us to come to this decision, but we can’t be sending a letter privately every 4 months to beg people to leave messages, it’s horribly taxing, and considering all we do, we don’t feel we should be doing it anymore. So this will hopefully the last time we have to go through this. I have no doubt that this will cause several people to leave, but it’s pretty much as if they weren’t there in the first place, considering we have never heard of them.
Again, I apologize if our decision offended you in any way, but this is what we think should be done.
It's three pages long. You didn't even highlight or separate the point of the post (the ultimatum and deadline) so people could find it. That's hardly redacted. My inner editor weeps.
No, actually, I don't think. How on earth does it work out in your mind that cutting out non-active and semi-active members will actually fuel the community? If you get rid of everyone there won't be anyone left to contribute OR to read and appreciate the content of the community.
Just because the community has 300 people doesn't mean there are 300 people watching the community. A lot of those are probably dead journals, or they don't have the community on friend's watch and only check once in a while, or many other things. It's not fair to say "100 dead journals and 100 non-watchers are members so all of you have to pay for it."
If you don't want to send out messages anymore, don't. But again, don't make the innocent people like me (who only checks the community every few months because I have a life and twincest is not my number one priority) have to pay because a minority of people who actually do read and use this community don't leave comments all the time.
As I said below, community is about including everyone. Every single person in the community, whether they comment or not, is part of the fandom. You are working AGAINST sustaining Shaman King fandom when you force people to leave and thus forget about the series. You are working against community when you leave a bitter taste in peoples' mouths because you kicked them out just because they're shy, or busy, or don't like commenting on entries that are months old (as I sometimes don't).
Obviously I'm not the owner of the community and I can't make the decision for you, but I guarantee you that you're shooting not only yourself and your own community but the entire fandom in the foot if you follow through with this.
Again, I'm sorry you think like that, but so far, you have not said anything we haven't considered yourself and decided wasn't such a high priority.
I don’t know how long you have been here, but I only got ownership of this club about a year ago. This club, hell, I don’t know how old it is, but before I even joined, it was at least 2 years old. In those 2 years, we had maybe 20 posts. Maybe. And only like, 1 out of 5 posts had a single comment.
The post where the ex-owner was asking for someone to adopt the club? It was left untouched for over half a year before I decided I wanted to take a chance at working on this. Ever since, we have gone through a lot of things that seriously hacked at the fandom’s legs, like the strikethrough, the bans, we had to mass cut and repost everything. I think it’s not just me who thinks this club got lifted up from nothing a decent place to look for your fandom.
Again, I can’t say much in your particular case, I have seen you comment, and weather you stay or leave is entirely up to you. As for the people who won’t read this note until it’s too late or anything like that, they can always reapply later, if thy have any interest at all in doing so.
As for the date, you make a valid point there (even tho word tells me it's barely over a page long), and when I see Yoh, I'll ask her to highlight the date and the information.
I was here long before you took hold of the community and actually was considering taking up the mantle. In the end my life was just too hectic for that. Let me take this opportunity to once again say thank you for not only taking over moderatorship but fixing up the community and giving it a jump start. I do appreciate it.
It is, however, unfair of you to say the community beforehand was "nothing."
My personal suggestion is to post a reminder over the weekend with just the important information and a link back to this post if people want to read more about why you're doing it this way. :) I think that would catch more attention.
I still think this is a very, very poor decision. But it's clear you've made up your minds and I can't change them no matter how much I disagree with it.
We are gonna give a chance at everyone to read it and send private emssages or mails, again, hopefully for the last time. Either way, thank you for taking the tiem to give us your input.
