HoroRen ficlet-ness

Nov 10, 2003 23:32

Bwah. I figure since this is supposedly my fic blog, I should at least post up random writings. Even if they're terrible and deserve to be shot many times over. So, because Mandii asked, I wrote a HoroRen fic thing over AIM for her.

They were sitting across from each other, an almost awkward silence hanging between them. Ren raised his glass of water and took a sip of the cool water. The ice within the glass tinkled softly, it seemed to be the only sound between them.

"You know, this is really stupid." Ren said after yet another moment of silence.

Horohoro was inclined to agree. "Yeah."

There was really no reason for either of them to be sitting here, but it appeared as if neither of them had any intention of leaving.

There was another moment of silence before Ren fidgeted with his glass of water. Tinkle, tinkle went the ice against the glass, a warning that the ice was breaking against the glass. Horohoro wished that there was something to break the ice right now.

So he began talking, anything that came to mind. How replanting the fields were going, how Pirika was doing, how he had seen Yoh the other day and so on. The words rushing out of his mouth were unstoppable and stupid, but it was something against the silence.

He hated the silence.

Ren seemed to be listening, inserting an 'Hm' or a nod here and there, but he looked bored. His eyes were half-lidded and still the ice in the glass tinkled. Whimsical, like wind chimes.

Horohoro was running out of things to say.

"And THEN, Kororo and Pirika---"

"Why did you want me to come here?" Ren asked finally, interrupting Horohoro and spearing his former teammate with an all too familiar glare. Ren was getting impatient and irritated. There was a fine line between things when you dealt with Ren. This was it.

Horohoro paused, letting the words die in his throat and swallowed dryly.

The sun was beginning to set, casting a red-gold light upon the dying day.

Horohoro thought that this certain shade of light made Ren beautiful. Not that Ren wasn't beautiful in any light. It was just that the soft afternoon light made him seem almost gentle. It lighted his eyes in a certain way, like...gold melting into gold.

"I..." He began, knowing that he was staring, but not being able to help it. He was stumbling over the words again, but he had to get them out this time. He had to.

~~~~
"Hey, Ren." Horohoro said out loud to the dark room. He wondered if Ren was still awake, he wondered if---
"What, you idiot?"
His answer came in a irritated whisper and he smiled sheepishly. He hadn't thought that he might wake Ren up or perhaps....perhaps that Ren wouldn't want to be bothered. It was late.
"...Never mind." His courage was failing him. He couldn't even blurt it out. He thought that it was one of the most frustrating things since Ren.
"What is it? Just say it. You can't have woke me up for nothing."
"Ren, I..." He could almost say it. He could say it. He could...! "I think we can win the tournament tomorrow."
Silence greeted his words.
"...Of course we'll win, you idiot. We haven't lost yet. Go to sleep." He heard a rustling of sheets and then there was silence once more.
"Ren?" He tried again into the darkness, but there was no answer and his heart sank.
There was only silence.
~~~~

“You?" Ren asked, his irritation becoming more apparent by the second.

"I..." Horohoro clenched his hands together into fists and stared at Ren. His eyes were sparkling with his irritation. It seemed like the summer sun clung to him in golden sparks.

"I think you're beautiful."

He watched as Ren blinked at him. Once, twice, three times.

Horohoro realized that he was blushing. His face was burning. Maybe smoke was coming out of his ears too. He wouldn't have been surprised if it were.

"...WHAT did you say?" He heard Ren ask.

"I-I said...that....you're beautiful." There. He said it again. He wasn't going to back down this time. He wasn't going to make another stupid mistake.

It seemed as if Ren hadn't registered the words yet. He blinked again, once, twice and three times. Then a blush slowly spread across his face.

Horohoro thought it made him even more beautiful. It was, he thought wickedly, also very cute. He was amazed that his former team leader could blush so adorably.

"Stop joking around!" The glass of water was slammed onto the table. The ice tinkled softly, but it was slowly melting into water. The tinkle was softer now, almost inaudible.

The ice is melting, breaking. Soon it'll melt completely into water. There will be nothing in between.

Horohoro took a deep breath and stared at Ren steadily.

"I wasn't joking." He said seriously, watching the hurt and shock flicker in Ren's eyes that melted into surprise. He wasn't going to back down this time. He wasn't going to mess up this time.

"Ren, I..." He took another breath, calm settling onto him like newly fallen snow. He closed his eyes and opened them again.

"I love you."

~~~~
"You're going to have to tell him someday." Yoh said, throwing a stone and watching as it skipped over the waters.
"He'll hate me." He replied, despairingly.
Yoh turned towards him, a brilliant smile on his face.
"It'll be all right. Trust me."
~~~~

His heart was beating so loudly and painfully in his chest. Ren still hadn't said anything and he was beginning to get nervous.

~~~~
"The hardest part is waiting. The longer you wait, the harder it'll be. Then you get to wait some more, for his answer, you know?" Yoh said so many things to him these days. Many things that made sense. Some that he didn't understand.
"But, in the end, it'll be okay. You'll just have to be cool and calm. ...But you can do that just fine."
~~~~

"You can't love me. That's---"

"It's the truth. I do love you."

His favorite season is the winter because it's so cold. He loves the snow because it's so cold. He loves Ren because....

Ren is warm.

The sun was setting quickly, dying the sky in shades of red, orange and purple. Soon it will be night. Soon, the sky will be dark and there will only be the moon and the stars.

Right. This thing is probably going to be heavily edited, but um...XD I can't stand to look at it for more than a few minutes...! Mannnnddii! How you can stand to read this thing?! ::shakes her head and falls onto the keyboard fast asleep:: Zzzz...Hao nummy...
