So I've seen ep 1 of Hannibal now... and so far I'm intrigued, but also a bit disappointed. For one, I love the cinematogrophy of it, it's stunnigly shot and I love the colors they use. I also like the main character quite a bit, it's just Dr. Lecter that I'm unsure about.
It's not only that I connect this face very much with Casino Royal, but it's also that I find him very unattractive. Young Anthony Hopkins might not have been super handsome, but he had that searing look that made him quite attractive. His Lector also had this strange attractiveness even though he was very repulsive at the same time. It's that dichotomy that really made the character.
The tv show's Dr. Lecter is just repulsive to me right now. The way they portray him he's quite clearly a psychopath, everything he does is planned meticulously. I do like the tension there is between the two main characters so far, even though it's pretty much all on Lecter's side so far, he's clearly interested in Graham. I can see the fanfictions being written from that, but right now, it's not really working for me.
Also Lecter mumbles. It's really hard to follow what he's saying. Now the actor is not a native speaker and I assume he had to learn an American accent as well for this, but in my mind Lecter is someone who enunciates every word with unfailing precision. So far I'm not sold on the supporting characters either.
My s.o. says he's no longer interested in watching, so I'll try to catch up and we'll see how it looks from there.
