CONCERT: Warped Tour

Aug 01, 2011 23:44

I went to Warped Tour on Friday and didn't get around to posting anything until today. I went with my bestie Alex, her family and two of our friends, Josh and Chris.
August Burns Red
I Set My Friends On Fire
MC Lars
Simple Plan
Go Radio
Against Me!
A Day To Remember

First off, I was kind of super pissed because the top three bands I wanted to see were playing at the same time. >_< A Day To Remember started at 8:00, Blood On The Dance Floor at 8:05, and D.R.U.G.S. at 8:15. It was okay though 'cause we had the all access backstage passes (courtesy of Mike who works for Vans), and the first thing that happened was we met Dahvie from BOTDF and got pictures and got him to sign stuff for us. Plus, I got a D.R.U.G.S. shirt, so that kind of made me missing them okay. I wore the pair of Vans my sister gave me like a year ago that I've pretty much never worn, and they gave me blisters after only ten minutes. T_T So I took them off and walked around in socks for the rest of the day, which actually wasn't too bad.

The first band we saw was August Burns Red, and they were quite possibly my favorite performance of the day. I don't really listen to them all that much, though Marianas Trench is one of my top favorite songs ever, so I really have no clue why I never took the time to listen to them before. When they played Marianas Trench, they told everyone to pick up their best friend and put them on their shoulders, but mine couldn't pick me up so we settled for holding hands. <3 That was really just awesome. I like seeing bands that can get to you emotionally, and this was definitely one of them. Seeing them was really special. I ended up buying Leveler on Sunday from Hot Topic 'cause everything was 50% off since the store was closing, and it was only $6. ^_^ What I've listened to so far is really awesome, so it's safe to say I love it. <3

I don't like I Set My Friends On Fire. You see, there's screamo that I like, and there's screamo that makes me want to puke, no middle ground. ISMFOF falls under the latter. I was forced to see them because everyone I went with likes them. They're possibly even worse live. If you try to convince me otherwise, I will quite possibly strangle you, because I've been hearing about how supposedly awesome they are all weekend, and it's kind of making me want to scream.

MC Lars was pretty entertaining. I don't listen to him, but he was good live, and his songs made me laugh. Watching Alex's 11 year old sister shouting "fuck you" along with everyone else when he told us to pretty much made my day. Also, it was pretty amusing that Josh and Chris sat there rapping along with him.

Simple Plan was disappointing. I haven't listened to them for years, but we went to see them on the principle of 'this is the first band I avidly listened to as a kid'. It was nearly impossible to hear their vocalist's voice. It was pretty much just drowned out by the guitar, and most of the time I had no idea what song they were playing.

We had a similar issue with Go Radio, but I could hear his voice perfect when they played Goodnight Moon, which made me happy. ^_^

We only heard part of Against Me!'s set. We just happened to be at the Vans tent getting merch when they played I Was A Teenage Anarchist, and my bestie and I stood there singing along while our friends laughed at us. That was pretty much it though, and I wish we could have heard more, but then we left to go get dinner (despite the fact that it was only like 3).

We went back around 7:30 to see A Day To Remember. Alex and Chris went to see Blood On The Dance Floor instead. I love A Day To Remember, and I listen to them a lot, but apparently they're Josh's favorite band, so he knew EVERY WORD. It was also kind of adorable to watch him spazzing after they finished playing and he got all of the members to sign his shirt. He looked like he was about to explode. O_o

I preferred the lineup for Warped last year, but I still had a lot of fun, because it was pretty much my first time hanging out with Josh and Chris (we met them over the internet O_o), so it was really great to finally hang out with them, since they live two hours away.
