She's not old enough yet...
kept running through my mind last night. In all honesty, still is. Last night while eating dinner, my precious little baby girl (all right so she is really a precocious 7 year old) informed me:
"Mommy I got my first kiss from a boy today!"
I very intelligently and eloquently replied:
HUH!!
After the long, very long, time it took for the words to completely process in my poor brain. I asked her to repeat that. No, I didn't hear wrong. I asked her it was, She doesn't even know his name!!!! It was some boy in her summer program.
So after, what felt like forever, I find out, it was just a kiss on the cheek, and after words she made a face and said "blah, that's gross."
So once I can finally think again, I wonder why was I so shocked. 5 years ago I had to sit through a seminar at school about AIDS & other sexual diseases. At that time I think it was about 35-45% (it may have been higher) of 5th graders had already tried some sort of sexual activity. A good portion of this percentage was having anal sex so they couldn't get pregnant and Mommy & Daddy would never find out! Along with having tried alcohol, smoking, and at least 1 kind of drug.
I'm sorry but, this is my baby, and she's not old enough yet. And I don't know if I will ever think she will be!! For now I will take comfort that for however brief a time, she is still in the stage where she thinks it is gross.
