I actually don't expect him to return for at least another couple of days. Maybe longer. I can't say I know him too well yet, but ... he seemed pretty damn worried about that Yuan guy.

Why wouldn't someone be genuinely concerned for someone they obviously care for? I expect him to be around Yuan for a few more days, so your expectations are likely correct.
