Ok just to clarify... we aren't engaged. It's a promise ring. It will be upgraded to an engagement ring as soon as I tell him I'm ready for that. For now I'm happy with a ring that signifies all the promises he made to me when we got back together.
To answer your question, it took a while for us to get back together. He regretted the breakup almost immediately after it even happened. Despite the fact that I moved back to Miami in July we didn't REALLY break up until about November, because I was still completely emotionally tied to him. So in November or so I started seeing other people, and going out on my own to find happiness. By about December he was quickly approaching "Miserable", but I wasn't interested in hearing about it because I was still very angry. I told him often that I just wanted to be friends, and I meant it. It was February or so when I finally forgave him and was no longer angry with him, nor did I have any more negative feelings for him. But I still just wanted to be friends. He was opposed to being friends, but he preferred friends over nothing, so he dealt with it. Then he came to visit in April, and gave me a long and extremely emotional speech about all the things he's learned, complete with a list of promises he's willing to make, accompanied by a ring to symbolize those promises. During his visit I realized that I still love him, and that I wanted to give it another shot. So we did, and here we are. The end. :)
