[Your phone is ringing, Cameron. Pick up. Pick up.]

[Not much of a shock to see Chase's number on the screen; not too many people have hers here, honestly.]

Hello?

[Kind of a shock to him that he's calling her, but what are the other options? Wilson's sick. House is.... House. There's just a slow inhale on the other end of the line, then.]

Hi.

[Well, it certainly isn't usual. There's a rustling as she shifts the phone from her hand to sit against her shoulder, and her tone is quizzical when she speaks again.]

What's up?

I'm stuck in the lab all bloody night.

[Which isn't so much what's up as where's up, but hey.]

...Wanted to see how you were.

Working on the recent outbreak?

[She's trying to evade that implied question, just a little. And she's curious; she's gotten used to not having to do conventional bloodwork, trying not to think about how it does get done.]

Mhm. It's not that I don't trust Eden, but would you want your disease confirmed by a microscope or magic wand?

[And then there's the matter of a little bet he has on.]

She does seem to be pretty accurate.

[It's a slightly grudging admission. Cameron doesn't like magic running rampant in the lab, but she does like Eden, and Eden has always seemed eager to learn.]

What have you found out so far?

Pretty accurate. Because that's reassuring.

[But yes, so far she's matching him diagnosis for diagnosis, sigh.]

Well, I've found out someone needs to mow the damn grass. Everything so far has an insect vector, mostly ticks.

Hmn.

[That monosyllable might sound just the slightest bit smug; she suspected there'd be some underlying commonality, in spite of the varied symptoms reported. Cause and effect. Not a curse, perhaps, but probably not a natural occurrence.]

Narrows down our options a little, at least.

It narrows down the possible range of blood panels to about fifty, but with observation we should be able to treat without bloodwork in most cases. It's good news.

[Or good ne-euuuuuhs. He's yawning.]

Exactly.

[She pauses, transfers the phone back to her hand, a little perplexed. She'd assumed, at first, that he needed a hand, had run into some emergency... but that doesn't seem to be the case. Is Chase actually just calling to chat?]

So-- you're doing this because you don't trust Eden's results?

Pretty much.

[Okay well maybe not just for the smalltalk. There is something pregnant in this pause.]

I guess you saw House's post on the subject. And other subjects.

[She doesn't answer immediately. No doubt he can imagine her glancing down and to the side, folding her free arm across her body as she considers his meaning. Other subjects indeed.]

I saw.

He didn't mean us. One of his 'new' employees apparently holed up in a different exam room.

No wonder I got complaints about how long patients had to wait.

[That elicits a short laugh, some of her tension draining away. As much as she'd prefer not to discuss that curse, it helps to know that they're in the clear. Probably.]

Better than getting complaints that they'd walked in on it.
