Hard to believe, but the new poet laureate of the US, appointed by the Librarian of Congress, under a Bush Administration appointee, is Kay Ryan. Other than Louise Gluck 5 years ago, she's the only woman appointed during the BushII years (all of them have been white since Clinton left office) and I'm 99% certain she's the only out lesbian poet ever to be so annointed. Woot! I'm wondering if the religious right will notice?
