the nightmare call

So last night after I took my son to his *first* homecoming dance and glared at my youngest til she finally started her chores, I was talking to TaylorGibbs on the phone when the call waiting beeped in. Checked the caller id & it was a number I didn't recognize (cell phone NE, no name listed) but I answered it anyway. & this voice I'd never heard asked if I was 'anna'. I'm half thinking 'no shit sherlock' & uh oh, now what happened. Then he identified himself as being from a private ambulance company.
Now my first thought was what happened to Austin - the kid is ADHD & rather confrontational (like most teen boys) so I was positive he'd gotten into something at the dance or gotten clobbered by someone.
Turns out they say, 'we have your daughter with us'. My oldest is a high school senior who's the captain of the band's color guard. Thanks to her boss & a sudden cold snap, her asthma has run amok. & last night was a football where the band was marching their entire show (Pirates of the Caribbean) for the first time. Candice's asthma kicked in before they even started, but she went on the field & did the whole show anyway. By the time she came off the field, she seriously couldn't breathe & her inhaler was locked in the band room (across the parking lot). Didn't matter since it did no good once it was fetched.
So the superintendent (a priest) & band director got the ambulance guys & they had to take her into the ambulance & gave her albuterol. Then they called me.
damn...damn damn....think my heart stopped when he was telling me this. & I'm pretty sure I flat out hung up on TG too (she says no but I'm not convinced). Broke records driving across town as well.
Yep - ended up taking her to the ER simply because when I got there she was just not all there. Hard to explain but think car engine not firing on all cylinders. Nothing more serious ended up being wrong - she was numb & lightheaded from hyperventilating while she couldn't breathe. But CRAP!!!

Now to come up with a plan to keep the nebulizer close by during football games & marching band contests.

candice, ambulances
